    EFI conversion on a Gen-1

I have to say this is one of, if not, the most impressive modification threads I seen anywhere. So very well done. I have most of the skills to do this but have no enthusiasm to even start. Anyways, been meaning to post this a while back, a friend of mine mentioned that there are companies...

    Carb synch issue

The gasket should not dissolve, is it possible they were not fitted? You did the correct thing in replacing the others whilst the carbs were off (removing and refitting the is a right PITA).

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Done something that I was meaning to do for a while. As I don't seem wget out enough, the bike won't start, mainly due to periodically turning the ignition on so the carbs are kept topped up, I got fed up with having to remove the seat in order to charge the battery. So a fitted a short lead...

    Speedometer calibration

In the UK the speedo by law must over read. I don't understand what problem having yours overread by 8% can possibly cause.... in fact it is more likely to save you from getting speeding tickets.

    Repair finish on Intake scoops

If they are like Gen 1 scoops then here's what I remember. The scoops are cast aluminum alloy that is anodised a grey /silver colour. If you remove the anodising coat, the Al alloy has blemishes, best described as patches of a slightly different colour. Anodising is very durable so brake...

    Front and rear wheel conversion

apologies if I misled anyone, that is not my bike. I remember seeing a Vmax on ebay with triumph USD forks that looked as if it could have come from the Yamhaha factory - the photo is an example of that although not necessarily Triumph forks.

    Front and rear wheel conversion

I'd suggest USD forks, for no reason other than they look good.

Right side turn signals stopped working, Gen 2

Really need to see a wiring diagram to offer suggestions as it unusual for both lamps to stop working. Typically each lamp has its own ground. Obviously the first step is to check the bulbs. Next remove bulb and using multimeter connected to positive connector and a know good ground such as...

Gen1 VMAX 1985 won't start after replacing turnsignal relay.

I'm sure you're right, I recall seeing combined unit but didn't take much notice sine mine is' 98. Turning on the ignition headlamp comes on, you should hear Vboost cycle and the fuel pump click until carbs are full. The green neutral light should be on. When you press the ignition, headlamp...

Gen1 VMAX 1985 won't start after replacing turnsignal relay.

Firstly are we talking about the same thing? Below is a photo of the the flasher unit. Unplug it. It has nothing to do with the starting or running of the engine. The unit connects to the turn switch to start and stop the flashing. It has input from the speedo to turn off once the bike has...

    1st Gen V-Max Just Bought a 2001 Black Max

I saw Suzi Quatro in Birmingham when I was 20. As for my bikes and cars, nobody rides or drives them, in fact nobody touched them.

    Possible fuel / pump issue

That's not long. When it cuts out, is it like turning the ignition off or does it run erratically before that? The latter would tend to point to fuel starvation as the fuel pumps stops delivering fuel. Bear in mind that by this time parts (electronics, ignition coils and fuel pump) will have...

    Possible fuel / pump issue

... back to the original. How long after riding does it cut out? There should be a vent for the fuel tank. Ad the fuel pump draws fuel, air gets sucked in. If the vent is blocked, the pump will struggle to suck fuel out. If you remove the fuel cap, youll hear air sucked in. Also when it...

    Charging issue

So to summarise, the measurements on the stator were in spec. , but clearly the burnt insulation on the wires indicates something abnormal had occurred.
  18. 02GF74

    Possible fuel / pump issue

That's not quite correct. There is a spring inside the fuel pump that determines the fuel pressure and pushes the solenoid plunger away from the solenoid contacts. When pressure drops, the contacts close and the solenoid plunger draws fuel from the tank into the pump. The spring presses...

Hey all together, new owner from Australia..

The original Vmax was 145 bhp achieved by Vboost. In the UK the first Vmaxs were without Vboost so were around 100bhp. (if you wanted a full power one, you'd look for an imported one, known ad a grey import). We did get the full power one after about 5 years. Each model had a different...

Hi all - new owner from UK

When you come to do the final fill, use deionised water, available from Halfords (Wilkinsons sold it cheapest but they've gone bust). Add anti-freeze. Even if you don't intend to do any winter riding, it contains chemicals to prevent (or more accurately slow down) corrosion.
