Hi,
I'm new to the forums so lets start with a little presentation. I'm Kenny, 21 years old, from Belgium. My dad drove a Vmax for over 10 years. My dad bought himself a Triumph Tiger Explorer and I'm taking over his old Vmax.
Me and my dad have an online motor-store (we sell parts of al kinds of bikes)
www.kglracing.com
This is the Vmax when he did al his mods:
Specs:
The bike has an hand made (by my dad) alu frame brace
An R1 upside down fork (the old model)
Ohlins suspension
Billet front brakes 6 pistons x2
Floating brakedics
DAM exhaust
17" rear wheel
18" broadened front wheel
Reinforced rear bridge
Givi windscreen
Manuel/automatic Boost setting
Lockup clutch system
K&N airfilter
The bike drove about 130k kilometers, it has already his 2nd engine (the gearbox of the first one was giving away after 100k kilometers).
Today (10 years later) the paintjob of the bike is not in a super condition anymore. So now it is my turn to restore the Vmax to its full beauty.
I photoshopped my plans, it will be a black bike with a Monster energy theme. On the photo the rims are completely green but I won't do this because I'm not happy with the looks of it. But you get the idea:
i will probably change allot to this design before I'm completely happy with it
The first thing I did was making 1 last photo before I started:
30 minutes later:
Then the old stickers needed to come off:
had to do some repairing on 1 of the airscoops (it flew off at 120km/h, so pretty banged up)
I bought some cool stuff for the bike:
Update 31/03/2013
Here in Belgium we have new (******* huge) number plates.. Big pain in the ass.. So I had to move the old placement (left of the rear wheel). So we made a metal bracket and build it in the race tail:
Then I fitted the repaired air scoops, it still needs a little bit adjusting.
My headlight arrived!
Here I hold it in front to get an idea. I will be fitting it when all the sanding is done (too much dust in the garage and I don't want my new parts all dirty right from the start)
See you next update ;-)
Update 13/04/2013
It's been a while since the last update and allot has changed. The headlight is mounted and connected, the parts are all sanded and they will be painted next week. I changed some ideas about the colors, you will see. The bike is cleaned up after being covered with all the dust from sanding the parts. I have mounted my KOSO speedo and a new handlebar. I have fitted heated hand grips as well. I have covered as much cables as I could with green fluo protectors. Here are the results from this week:
See you next update!
Update 18/04/2013
The tankcover, wheels and sidecovers are back! The pieces with green accents are still on their way. So this time not allot to talk about, just look at the results:
I also got my stickers, these will be on the tank and going over to the windscoops:
In a few days I will get the rest of the bodywork!
See you next update!
Update 19/04/2013
Today a little bit of bad news. The rest of the bodywork has a little delay of a few days. He messed up the green paint or something so he has to redo it Well no worries, I started on installing the air scoops to place the stickers. Then will have to come off again for placing the little pieces between the tank and airscoops. So what else? The rear wheel and bridge is installed. Enjoy:
Next update, you will see a completed bike!
Birthday update: 4/05/2013
I finished the bike today! I have new mirrors, new indicators, new taillight, ... I'll just show you:
Old Vs new
I'm so happy with the results! I hope you liked this project! When I fit new updates to the bike I will keep posting them here of course. Enjoy your weekend!
