Well, this weekend was quite busy. I got my steering head bearing changed, and my front forks rebuilt with progressives, brake pads changed, new tires put on, as well as working on the carbs. So, that where my problems began. I was performing the shotgun. All of my diaphrams are in good shape...

Most carbs I have worked on seem to have well-defined circuits. The carb circuits on the Max seem to have way more overlap... For example, the idle mixture settings seem to produce a very noticeable effect on performance outside of idle. The question is why? If I turn the screws out to 3.5...

If I want to make sure the settings on the mixture screws are correct, how many turns out should they be? I want to make sure they are correct, since I messed with them the stumbling and crappy performance has become worse :bang head:. Thank you in advance.

Ok... So I am trying to follow all the instructions for setting the pilot mixture screws and they all seem pretty straight forward, but I seem to have one problem that somewhat concerns me. When I turn each mixture screw in until the engine starts to stutter, the screws are almost all the way...

Mark, When I checked the settings for the mixture screws I noticed that they all had about 1/2 a turn. These settings were where I set them when doing the ear tuning. My question is what would cause them to tune correctly at 1/2 a turn vice the normal 2-2.5 turns. I get a fuel smell in general...

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Air/Fuel gauges on bikes. I've installed them in cars before, but installation was easy considering the car already had an O2 sensor. Also, do A/F gauges update fast enough to be of any actual use for tuning your bike?

Do they wear out, rust, get clogged or is it just the rubber O-ring condition deteriorates? I have 30K on the bike, never took them out yet but planning to do so this week end. any comments appreciated. Thanks. ________ ultimate fighter

I was cleaning the carbs on my '85 Max the other day, and noticed 2 of the idle mixture screws were missing the "O" ring that goes onto the idle mixture screw "stack". Yamaha does not sell this "O" ring separately. does anyone know where I can get an "O" ring that will fit?
