After years of installing bearing races using a bearing driver and hammer, only to end up with cocked [lower] bearing races and burrs inside the steering head, I decided to invest in the following tools: Park Tool HHP-2 Headset Press. Park Tool CRS-2M Steering Stem Bearing...

    Speed Wobble

I was coming home tonight from my girls house and this is new but at 105 ( I know...too fast) anyway at 105 there was a start of a wobble in the front end. I pulled over and checked my tires and they were good. I rode the rest of the way home at a sane speed and no more issues. I took it up to...

    Steering bearing/furbur/lock washer question

The bloke who owned my 85 before me told me he had looked at the furbur fix info online, and decided that the rubber washer didn't do anything, so he threw it away. I had a bike shop look at the steering bearings, grease them up and adjust them. They told me I would need new bearings soon. I...

not the typical steering head bearing question

so it seems that i'm retorquing the bearings a lot like every 500 miles--this doesn't seem right to me. idk how many miles it should be in general, but 500 seems problematic. i'm being realistic and not dreaming of never having to revisit the steering head bearings, but hold long should one...

Greetings All. I have an '88 VMax that I unfortunately must park on the streets of NYC. I've just hit 11k miles today, and she's in beautiful stock condition. A few days ago, someone backed into my bike, knocking it down while the steering lock was engaged. Now, it won't lock in position, as...
