Gorgeous bike, but why would he want a chain drive instead of shaft?!
Frees up a lot of horsepower. Chain is much more efficient. Shaft drive consumes HP that never makes it to the rear wheel.

I beg the differ not ALOT of HP lol just some. With my chaindrive and its a 1260 High conpression it was only putting down 135 some stock vmaxes with just exhaust and jet kit can out down 125. Yes a lot easier to maintain like not breaking drive shafts. But I think the biggest improvement is the not lifting of the bike when taking off. A lot better in the corners when accelerating. Just my thoughts

On my old XS1100, Yamaha had reversed the engine rotation to counteract the lifting at launch through the shaft. It felt just like a chain drive set up.
For about 30hp at the rear wheel, and the ability to fine tune the gear ratio.
I actually like the looks of the 2nd Gen Max with shaft. Then again, I would also want to stretch out the front with extended forks and a raked triple tree. That's just me though. Now the first Gen... HELLZ YEAH on the chain drive!!!I will say this, in my opinion the max weather the gen 1 or 2 should have been a chain drive. Why u ask, simple. It was designed for what, ,,,, the dragstrip, not for touring, but was put in the touring class.
We all have seen the video of how they came about the idea of the max. So my ? is why limit a bike with shaftdrive when you are building a dragbike. It didn't make any sense. You are robbin the bike of its full ability to do what is was designed to do. I would like to see a comparison between a stock vmax and a chaindrive only vmax.
I have always believed that a chaindrive max will compete with the sportbikes at the drags, the problem has always been the driveshaft.
I like shaftdrive, low main, quiet, it is great, but the problem I don't like is no rim selection, weight, loss of power, lift on hard accerlation.
This is for sure, as soon as I am able to chaindrive this 2012 Gen 2 I have it will be. I hate the drive shaft on it and want a better selection of rims, which I cannot get with the shaft.
If Sean can't do it Madmax or PCW wll. But it will be done real soon.
It is there saying, We build it and You make it your own.
My Own will be here soon. Chaindrive to the Max!unk:
Remember guys that while the bike is lifting under hard acceleration that the tire is being forced into the ground... I don't like how the shaft will try to wash you when you are spinning but its manageable.. I actually have all the parts to go chain drive but I don't think I'm gonna do it now, I just like the bike too much the way it is and Jedi told me he'd make me a custom driveshaft when I was ready so I hopefully won't be snapping the stockers anymore..
