I have been up and down if I want to do a 1500 or go milder. It's not going to be cheap ($5-7K) to have a really fast Vmax. I have never driven or ridden the 1/4 mile so it will be a learning experiance for me. I'm thinking it would be better to ride the Vmax more with a milder build and have another bike as a track bike option, be it a Vmax or other.
My other option is a FZ1 with 50 k miles on it (needs a top end job as it's puffing blue smoke on hard acceleration) and I woud stretch it/ strap it to start with. I probably would use it as a limited rider/ mostly track bike. I may be wrong but I think it would be cheaper to make a FZ1 into a track bike that I could learn on. It would be easy to go back to stock if it's something I didn't end up liking.
I even have a track I can test for free at! It's an old Army Air base that's trianglular in shape with each leg a mile in length. It's only used by the big three to do their winter testing, so theirs nobody around in the summer.

You sure thats not a crop circle?

I am with you Todd in wanting to hear how others are using their big bore Vmax and their rideablity compared to stock. I have to ride about 4 hours to get to the closest VMF Vmax , as Redbone sits now it is a comfortable ride for 600+ miles and I don't want to lose that. But I do want some more performance out of Redbone, that is sure. I already had Sean undercut the trans, install HD oiler, and install the DD clutch (love it!) so I have some of the work already done to do a big bore.
He he, I'm sure some aliens have landed there from time to time! This airfield is somewhat interesting historically being among other thing a anti aircraft installation and one of the first nuclear missle sites. This place is about 20 miles from my house but cell reception is sketchy, so for safty sake I only get out there when I can convince someone to go with me. There are mostly vtwin riders around here so their interest is low in trying to go fast or drag racing. Here is a shot from ground level:

Pcw Racing for sure John built me a 1500 tourmaster, take it from me you wont be sorry if you do go with the 1500 you will need to go with the 39mm flatside carbs to get the full potential out the motor and at least a 3 inch stretch if i could do it over again i wish i would have made my bike chain drive. This is the 2nd yr for the bike and i have about 5k on the motor. It pulled a 176rwhp/124ftlbs of torque on the happy dyno at thunder this yr. I have rode the gen 2 and all im saying is im glad i kept my gen 1.
