I would be interested in knowing more about the designation "Limited Edition". This designation makes it sound special in some regard. Yes, I understand this is the 20th year of production for this first generation V4 1200 Vmax, but is there more to it than the little badge on the airbox cover? Is the '05 any different than the '04 or '06? Do we know how many were produced as compared to other years? Mine is so extensively modified that I have no idea what it originally looked like?

2005 Vmax isn't any different other than color and a badge of the faux cover.
Here are a couple examples of stock 2005 vmax

Supposedly only 2000 made.

I wandered into a Yamaha dealer on a whim in 2005 and spotted the one anniversary bike they had. Like a lot of people, I had always wanted one of these bikes. This one was 1800/2000. The salesman guaranteed this was the last year for the vMax and I ended up walking out of there as a new owner. (And thinking it might hold its value better than an older model) Needless to say the bike was only special by the numbered badge and paint job. Then they brought the bike back for 2 more years. I enjoyed it for a number of years, sold it when I wasn’t riding much, then got back into it and bought a mint ‘89.
