Avon makes great oversized tires. They are well rounded and are great when wet or damp. I'm sure you have heard already but large, wide tires handle like sh!t when turning / carving mountain roads. Have a chopper with a 300mm rear tire and it will go very fast in a straight line but turns like a train. It has a 2032cc or 124 cu in engine and is purpose buit to go straight quickly. I would NEVER go wider on my 1700 v max. It handles perfectly with the tire it has. A 240 or 300 rear tire would not keep the tire from going up in smoke through the first (3) gears anyway. 15-20 psi and throttle control may. 1700 vmax is one of (5) of my bikes I currently own and have owned over (35) bikes in my lifetime. It is my favorite unless I am going on a long trip. Only complaint is 80 miles to a tank full. A (3) gallon fuel bladder in my passenger seat bag cures that minor problem though.

I finally got my 240 wide wheel kit mounted to my Vmax. After our mountain trip in June, my 200 was toast (down to a 1" wide steel strip of belt in the middle). I love my 240. After owning 4 M109's with a combination of anything from the stock 240 up to a 260, cornering is a breeze. I also put a 130 on the front when I first bought the bike. It really helped with the low speed moves. I have a 240 metzler on the back now, but I am looking forward to having a michelin 240/130 combo on my bike. Those are really rounded and handle great.

Hi I am new on this thread and looking for some help. I am looking to do the same put a larger tire on my 2016 vmax. What is the largest tire I can put on stock rims? Also where did you get your kit from?
Thanks.

As far as I know the 240 is the widest tire on the wider wheel (I do have modified wheels available outright or exchanged).
The 200 is probably the widest you can go on a stock wheel since there aren't a lot of options for an 18" wheel.

Hi thanks for you response. What is the price for buying the rim/tires and any other parts? I dont feel like sending my rim for modifications. Thanks.

Been a while since I've been active on here, I had a 2007 Vmax, sold it and got a BKing, I now have an M109R and FZ10. My next bike to replace these two will likely be a gen 2 Vmax. I recently put the new Avon Cobra Chromes on the M109R 130/70-18 up front and 260/40-18 in the rear. On the Avon site, the 260 is still within spec for the M109R rear when installed on the stock 8.5" wheel. This was by far the best change I have made to improve the handling. Installing the 260 on that wheel made the profile more round, like a 45 rather than a 40. I haven't been able to find a wide wheel kit or what the actual width is of the wide wheel is for the gen2 Vmax. Can someone tell me what the width of the wide rear wheel is?

The 240 wheel is I believe 8" wide.

I can tell you a 260 would never fit, the 240 barely clears the swing arm and has been known to rub a bit depending on which tire you choose. Becomes much more likely if you lower the bike or ride 2 up. Then you'll have rubbing on the inner fender.

Ah, thanks. Exactly what I was looking for. I will likely stay with the stock wheel in that case, I see the Cobra Chromes also come in a 200/55-18. I see others saying they are pleased with 130/240 combo, anyone run the 130 front with the 200/50 or 55 rear?

210/40R-18.

It's very difficult to mount and does not handle well.

So a 200 is really the only tire recommended for a stock rim.

Getting this thread back ,

wondering what is the average cost of a 240 conversion kit ? I think it looks amazing with a 240 vs 200 .

anbody has done this recently?

What we charge:

We use a stock wheel (we can do the work on our cores so you don't have to leave the bike without anything on it while we do the work). The stock lips are removed and new custom lips are formed and welded back in place. This does leave a weld bead though i believe we could grind the weld down if so desired (at extra cost). We were able to leave the bearings in this first one but if you want it powdercoated they have to be removed in order to go in the oven. If they are painted we can mask them and leave them in. We might be able to do a chrome service on these but not sure how clean the aluminum cores are (we struggle on the gen 1 wheels). See pics.

sounds great , is there any other modifications that needs to be done to the bike ? Swing arm ?
How much it would be form a shop to swap wheels ?
Thanks for your info

It's a bolt on wheel identical to the factory 240 kit that is discontinued. It does require the diff to be removed and installed with the wheel at the same time.

Sounds good ! Looking to upgrade soon ,

do you have any pics installed in the bike ?
I appreciate it

I do not but it will look nearly exactly the same as the original 240 Yamaha wheel since we did the exact same offsets (which by the way was centered).

Anyone knows what difference it is between stock bearings and the "Wide Wheel Bearing Kit" and do I need it? (Using a widened stock rim)
