Your scoops look great. I got the polishing bug before, and I wished it was over far before I was done.

keeping them polished is not that big of a deal, grab yourself some Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish.. The stuff works awesome to maintain the shine and I think it coats it a little which helps minimize water spots.

i know my local coater i think does them for $24 - $50 a pop. u gotta remove bearings tho. not a bad job. 2-3 beers if u get the rear one in one good pull and someone helps ya.

Thats not bad.. Maybe for a future project.

Iv got time on my hands and will continue to polish more for this bike.

I just got back from a redline blast through Norman Rockwells world. One hill top to the nest. Slowing down to 6K at the top and nailing it for the red line at the bottom for about 10 miles. I love this bike and rural Iowa..

That 880 sure does increase top end..

I polish alot of aluminum stuff. had a zx9 that i polished the wheels ,sub frame, frame .
then my vmax, i polished the water pump cover, scoops, grab bar, backrest(when it's on) and kerker can.
best advice i can give is don't be afraid to get aggressive. i start with 80 grit.
then work my way to 1200. before any buffing begins. then sometimes I will also use
some 000 steel wool and mothers. I have been thinking about having some stuff powder coated clear, after a good polishing. I know i can pay for chrome ones. but there is just something about looking at the nice shinny parts. and knowing you did it.
there's 2 kinds of hot roders (vmaxers) in my book

1. the guy who drops his bike off at a shop. and throws money at it.

2.Guys like alot of us on here. who will do everything they can themselves.you get
more pride when you get dirty and do things you thought you never could.

Well said.

Im reluctant to use anything courser than 400 because its hard for me to see if and when Iv sanded the courser lines off. A few times I had to back track guessing which grit I didn't sand enough.

000 steel wool and mothers for final polishing?

I will take any advice I can because the part I don't enjoy is letting my finger tips heal up again so I can keep going.

Has anyone used 3M Scotch-Brite Roloc Surface Conditioning Discs??

Super fine: equivalent to 600 - 320 grit coated abrasive
Very Fine: equivalent to 320 - 220 grit coated abrasive
Medium: equivalent to 120 - 100 grit coated abrasive
Coarse: equivalent to 100 - 80 grit coated abrasive

I have used scotchbrite/ mothers and that works well but I did follow that with a soft cloth/ mothers to really smooth and put a good shine on the metal. I like the look of polished vs. chrome although chrome would be much easier to maintain.

Just be careful with no front fender/brace on. That'll make for some interesting corners which we all know IA doesn't really have... lol

Rolocs can be awesome, but use caution - they can get aggressive real fast. I've never had a prob with them, but I know others who have ruined ****. Judging from your posts, I'll think you'll be fine with them.

I know the rolocs are aggressive . If I keep them moving I should be alright.,, maybe.

I wish they offered finer grits. 800 1000 etc
