Hey all, so the bike was running fine until tonight....The temps here in Lansing Mich were kind of warm, around 90 deg, but I was playing kind of hard with a passenger on the back. So I changed out the (2) rear plug wires (thanks Damon), because I noticed the speedo light dimming down with the flash of the blinker. I also checked the grounds on the block and the frame, clean as a whistle. So I might end up getting a new R/R from Sean Morley, but I need to eliminate other things first. So what setting do I set my Harbor Freight multi-meter on and what/where are the 3-legs I keep reading about? Some things said I need to check VAC, is that true? I need pics!!!! Also how can I prove the stator is good, the R/R is good, but I have a bad battery?
Thanks

Hey all, so my girl is acting up again, left it parked on reserve for almost a week...

So I got out my trust screwdriver and drained the bowls again. There was just barley enough settlement in the jar to tell anything was there, but it was, and it was brass color this time, not black. I also wondered if each bowl held the same fuel, so I placed the straight edge of tape on the jar for every bowl. You will notice they are all equal except cyl-4 and that is only a little shy of the other three. In case you are wondering, this is my granddaughter's baby food jar.
I started the bike for the first time of the day with the choke on, let her warm up, and then used a syringe to shoot B-12 carb cleaner into PAJ1 and the choke tubes. She is running better, but there is still a miss out of the right exhaust, so what is that cyl-1 and cyl-4? I did not have access to compressed air, so there might be some junk in the idle circuit. I have NOT removed the brass plugs for blowing out PAJ2. I still need to replace the front factory wires, hoping that is what it is, but not confident.

Set the meter to whatever it is for AC voltage. Check the meter in a household electrical receptical to make sure it works right. Inspect the plug, they burn up from heat and can be the problem. You can solder the wires and ditch the plug if you want. There are threads here with the voltage you should see between the 3 legs of the stator, with the bike running at the correct RPM. 45 volts at 2k, if I remember right. I like the late model Vmax R/R, in the original location. The plug you're looking for is behind the left cover, at the left, and below the battery. It's white. http://vmaxoutlaw.com/main.html for a service manual free.

If your exhaust pipes are loose and fresh air is getting into the exhaust, it will pop and 'backfire.' I would ensure the bolts are tight, especially at the heads.
