Another carb peeing gas.

New fuel lines installed. Danny is sending me the T hose for the right side carbs. The line from the pump to the left rear carb was really badly deteriorated... The cloth covering it just fell apart as I grabbed it with pliers, and the rubber was all flaky looking. I may have found the problem. Still nothing at all caught by the fuel filter after way over 1000 miles of use.

Took a short ride - gonna let the bike alone till the T hose gets here, but over the few miles it was ridden, no problems. Keeping up the Seafoam for a while, too.....

Hopefully that is all that's going to be needed, I'll keep my fingers crossed !

Man, it’s raining or looking like it’s about to pour over here today.. I wanted to do more testing with the air box restrictors and the DJ118 mains that’s in the bike now.. I'm calling around to see if anyone has the Mukuni #150 and #152.5 locally, but no dice.. So I have to order them. I'll bet I'll get good gas mileage with those 118's in there but I don’t want to blow my engine from running it too lean. I don’t know why the previous owner put 118 in running F.P. needles and (baffle removed) stock pipes. I read that removing the baffles on the stock pipe does not require a needle / jet mod.
ANYWAY!!.. I have a question for anyone concerned about carbs leaking gas.
I was at the local MC shop yesterday and I overheard a guy talking about his carbs leaking fuel. The shop tech told him what to look for and possibly change, and to tap on the float chamber to loosen of a stuck float valve. Good advice.. BUT.. I've had that happen to me twice, on 2 different carbs. After the 1st time it happened, I cleaned all carbs and added drain tubes.
Here's the kicker. I removed my carbs for the 1st time to give it a good cleaning, all looked fine afterwards. While still trying to diagnose my power problem, I removed the carbs again. This time to give it an Ultra Sonic cleaning (I have never seen so much **** come off using regular carb cleaning methods). When removing the bowl parts, I found some growth happening inside the float chambers. It looked like yellowish rock candy or salt crystals growing on the jet block and under the gasket. SO, even after a nice cleaning with the Ultra Sonic cleaner, I had another carb leak gas last week. Now I'm wondering, even if I purchased new float needle valves (newer rubber would allow for better seal), and this growth still happens beyond my control, it could cause the valves not to close fully and cause another leak. A total waist of money.
Has anyone else seen stuff like this growing inside your float bowls?

It could look like dried gas, but this photo was taken right after the bike had been idling 1 hour before. Gas cannot dry into something like this (not that fast anyway).. I read some forums about the E10 mix that draws in water.. Microbes then grow from the water and other contaminates that are present from the process of corn to make the Ethanol.

Well here is what I add to my gas about every 6-9 months.....and only about a 3rd of a can....I pour the rest into another vehicle.

Its BG Products 44K Fuel System Injector Cleaner Additive Power Enhancer...good stuff. PLUS...I would buy gas from somewhere else...

44K is great stuff! Pretty strong tho, run 1/3 can at each fill-up for the first 3 fill-ups in the spring and you should be good for the season.

Ran a can o' Seafoam through 3 tankfuls.. Not a problem so far. I've put maybe 200 miles on since the float bowl draining, and installing the new gas lines. Little bit of luck, this will get the gremlin.......... I'm thinking that that crap growing in those bowls probably isn't gas soluble so it probably won't go away without more powerful chemical help. Hope mine isn't like that inside - maybe Seafoam will do the trick if it is.....

It's been a few weeks and over a thousand miles since the fuel lines were replaced. So far, so good.. Bike is running strong and smoothly, so maybe a replacement of the lines did the trick.
