im having some issues trying to find parts to my friends dads virago. its an 87' and parts are discontinued for it. im trying to find rebuild kits for the carb. it is the same carb as ours but different insides. really i think i could get by with just a set of float needles. i opened the bowls up and there was 1 missing on one of the carbs.
any help of sites for viragos or contact email for someone that knows them. i am also confuessed on the model of the bike. it says v535 on the side of the bike, my friend says its an 1100, so i thought a 535 cylinder+535= 1070 ~ = 1100? but i ordered a rebuild kit for an 1100 and its not the same. :confused2:

Yamaha did make a 535 Virago. I've found parts for the 1100 carbs but never tried for the 535.

Edit: there should be a displacement stamped on the engine somewhere. I think my dad's old Virago had it stamped on the rear cylinder at the bottom of the jug.
(can't remember for sure though)

yes each cylinder is stamped, it says something like 535cm3 or something like that but it says 535 on each cylinder.

You're dealing with a XV535.
See if this place is a decent starting point.

I don't know them by the way, just punched into google and that's where I ended up.
If you need slide diaphragms, you may be a little hard pressed to find them, but if all you need are float needles, you're probably in luck. Those Mukini carbs are getting hard to find parts for.

They did make a 535 from what I remember, very small v-twin. I have no stats to back it up, just going by memory. Pro's on virago were... they made alot of them- they were popular & dependable-the 1100cc was a full second faster in the quarter than the 1100 honda shadows in the 1/4er-& alot of the early models had starter failure issues after about 17k...Only going by memory after a couple of BV&cokes, hope this helps some.

thanks guys i appreciate all the replies and links. i ended up finding a site last night that had the right kits and had a webmaster to VOA virago owners ass email me back. he gave me some info. ill post it incase down the road anyone is looking for info/links.

Your dad has a 535. The number is not cumulative an is embossed with the total displacment for the engine which is 535cc. The 1100's are embossed with 1063cc.

The bike is not rare and most bikes do not appreciate in value over the years unless it has some real things that made it special or had a big following. While the 535 is a good bike, it did not garner the support of the larger 700 thru 1100cc bikes (this countyr seems to live in the BIB syndrome "bigger is better" which I don't agree with). As such, parts are not as readily available for the 535 but enough of them were sold so that there should be some base for parts but you will have to search for the parts. NOS OEM parts as with all older bikes will become harder to find as the years go by. Production ended for the 535 in the late 90's.

Depending on it's year, your Vmax will most likely be one of those bikes that may be worth a bit more/apprecaite in value to some degree just because it was one of those "special" machines even tho it was not that popular a bike purchase. IMO, the larger Virago's are problably going to be worth more if for no other reason than the numbers of them produced and how long they were produced coupled with the cc range, makes them more of a keeper. IMO, none of the above will be especailly collectable or garner large sums of money.

.ExternalClass .ecxhmmessage P{padding:0px;}.ExternalClass body.ecxhmmessage{font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;}hello Marty, i got your email from the VOC page. i have a couple questions for you if you could spare the time. i own a Vmax and i am working on my dads virago he just bought. its an 87 xv535, he says its a 1100 and i see virago also has an 1100 model but i am confuessed. each cyllinder is stamped with 535 which would = 1070 right? so i guess my question is " is the xv535 a 535 or 1100?" also all the parts i tried to order oem are discontinued. very limited parts on ebay and hard to find on many links on VOC... is this a rare bike? would you say this is worth mor or will be worth more bieng as rare as it seems it is? any knowledge or info you could pass would be much appreciated. thank you for your time Marty -Vmax Rob-
