Is it Rawarrior who started the thread about the things to look-for in a used bike? Use the search function for him or for similar terms/words
about buying used bikes. I think this is it:

http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=21240&highlight=buying+bike

The price is a bit high, but if someone has already done the stuff mentioned, and done it right, to have a shop do those things would cost a good chunk of $. If it doesn't have 35,000+ miles on it and cosmetics are good, then getting it for $3800-4K is probably not a bad deal, less is better, of course. The thing is, if it doesn't feel right to you, and using knowledge you gained here, wait for another bike.

Hi Walker,

I have that exact same bike, yellow 94. I bought mine about 18 months ago with 6,500 miles for $3000. I think it might be a little high in price. Great looking bike though!!!

Just looked at this bike... geez what a turd. The pictures made it look much better than it actually is. Looked like it had spent time outside. Corrosion here and there. I wouldn't value it at half of what he's asking. "Looks and runs like new"... riiiight. Maybe if you're a blind man. Hopefully I can find something decent at a reasonable price soon. I'd like to find an early to mid 2000's for around 4,500. Maybe I need to spend more. I'd really like to have this one, but 7,300 seems way high to me.

Purchased for $3200 with a haynes manual and a brand new battery... acid not even installed yet.

Whatya think???

Oh 9,000 miles on it.

She runs a little rough (thinkin the carbs are a bit gummed up from sitting with gas in it and stabil) all year and it hasn't been driven in over a year and a half. So she bogs down a bit coming off idle, but she sure has fire when the gas is given after the initial pause.

Another odd thing is I keep hearing on all the videos a whirring sound when folks first turn on their bikes, but mine doesn't make any noises when I first turn it on. Is that normal?

Sounds like your vboost servo is unplugged. Do you have the stock airbox? Might have a jet kit if so a lot of people change them so the vboost is always active. That would explain the servo not turning over.

Run some seafoam through your next few tanks of gas. Thay will probably help with your carb.issues.

hi and welcome!

from the pix I can see you have a Kerker 4into1 exhaust and also I bet you have a stage 7 kit in the carbs and individual pods air filters because I can see the big oil vent pipe that comes with them coming from the oil filler cap.
A lot of people, when going full exhaust and stage 7, also go 'full time vboost' which means it stays open all the time.
Most of the time it's simply just disconnected, so if you want to try it on just reconnect and it should be fine.
It may help with idle and sync of carbs, and still run great at high revs.

I can also see the bike was dropped as your gear shifter is bent. You can bend it back if you heat it up.

There are a couple of people who can help you with the torn seat - Sean Morley can recover it (and reshape to make it REALLY comfortable) or you can get a Maxgasser seat as an upgrade from TwistedMax.

Other than than the bike looks good, it's obviously in need of a good wash n lube and general TLC but you sure are going to enjoy it and welcome to the club :)

Ok, I know for sure it has K&N air filters on it (4 total) but how would I verify that it has this kit you speak of and what does it do?

It wasnt dropped mearley loaded into a truck wrong and bent the shift pedal. I inspected it for other signs of it being dropped and there were none.

So if it does have this jet kit that should increase the value a tad yes?

Hello, long time lurker and finally started posting ( only took 6 years or so ).

The vent hose, pods and puke tank, are tell-tale signs of an S7 and should be enough to confirm. The only other (im)practical way is to have a look at the needles.

As far as the kit increasing the value of the bike, highly unlikely. It is very rare to recoup the cost from any mod. The winner is typically the buyer because (s)he gets the mods for free at the previous owner's expense.

Hello everyone,
I have joined a month or two ago, been busy but I thought I would introduce myself.
My name is Andrew and I live in Pennsylvania. I am a former Marine and served during the Gulf War 1988-1992. I bought my 1996 Vmax in March, I was out looking for a bike and I was looking at either a 1200 Sportster or the VMax......I am glad I went with the Vmax. It seems like I practically live on it. When I am not working behind the desk at the computer I am riding.
I am new to the Cruiser bikes. I also own a 1973 Aeramcchi Harley-Davidson Z-90 that I have been restoring since 1996, still can't get it started.....
I am looking to join a VMOA in the Northeast Pennsylvania area. If there are any out there please let me know.
Looking forward to some good friendships and fellow riders from here. Semper Fi !

OK, I've pulled the airscoopy lookin thing on the left side to reveal the v-boost servo controller and have found only one side of the round connector. I've done a pretty simple search for the other side and cannot find it to plug it back together to re-enable the Vboost @ 6000rpm again. Where does the other plug come from? Front or by the carbs? I really would like to have it off to see if this improves the take off.

Better yet, where would you recommend I post this question and I'll do a video of me starting and taking off with the bike so you can hear how it pauses.

Welcome and Thank-You for your service to our country!:worthy:
Glad you found us and I'm sure you noticed that VMF is a wealth of information and a very active group supporting our beloved Vmax's and it's owners.
If you want to see some fellow Vmax's in action please check out the soon to be upcoming "Spring Icreaker" thread in the rides section, or even the "Thunder in the Valley" thread(s) about a national Vmax event coming later in June in Johnstown, PA..

Hey guys, I first posted about a month ago, looking for a 2005 Max. I found one out of state, popped for the bike and shipping and hoped for the best. Only 5000 miles and nothing major wrong so far as I can see. The dealership wasn't completely forthcoming as to a few minor cosmetic issues, but what can you do? Ran a tank of gas through it (43 mpg, mostly in town. Seems better than most reports I have seen). Getting too hot in Phoenix to ride much now, but maybe I can go nocturnal. Didn't rev it up to the vboost rpm's yet. Seemed fast enough for this old guy without having to, but next time out I will see what happens.

Congrats on finding your 05, I hope the minor cosmetics will clean/repair easily, I ride with a fellow who has an 05, very nice looking year indeed, 43 mpg is really good, especially with mostly around town miles, sounds like it runs well, as far as getting into the V-Boost for the first time I would do it in 3rd or maybe 2nd if your feeling frisky, these things pull very hard, get a feel for things before you hit it hard in 1st, be carefull tho..........V-Boost is very addicting!.................:punk:.................Enjoy and ride safe!..................Tom.
