On the advice of another 2009 Vmax owner I bought a set of two BarEnder helmet locks, about $100. The version that fits the Vmax is the 6mm one.

http://www.barender.com/media.htm

They are a very quick install, replace the stock bar-ends with slightly heavier (220 gm vs 164 gm) cylindrical weights that work as helmet locks. The stock ends come off with a 5mm hex wrench and the new ones go on with a large flat-head screwdriver.

They are well made and have a push-button pin-and-bearing lock mechanism. There is an internal o-ring that keeps it snug and silent but it they have about 1mm of free play at the end which I hope doesn't increase vibration.

My hosting site is down so I'll attach pics.

pretty trick little gizmo. Not to be a downer, but about 95% of the helmet thefts I've been called to, the helmet strap was cut from the lock.

I got in the habit of taking my helmet with me after I mounted the helmet cam.

But, if you regulary park in sight of your ride, that would be a trick accy to put on it. :punk:

Locks just keep honest people from stealing.

I cant say I have ever had a helmet stolen and I just lay my helmet on the ground beside the bike.

Just leave a box of lice remover in your helmet

Funny. I was showing these to local PD a couple days ago and explained to him the phenomenon of people slicing straps to steal helmets. It turns out those helmets are not "totally" useless because the law just requires that you are wearing a helmet, not that it has straps!

I walked up on someone just about to steal stuff off my bike a couple weeks ago. Backpack, jacket, helmet were on it. There are few storage or security options for the bike I've found.

uh yup... i always just thought it would be a dumb idea to steal shit off of a bike, ya never know who owns it...

speaking of beatings...

last year i rode with some buddies by some young kids playing outside.. couldn't been more than 10 yrs old, and they started throwing stones at us.. going maybe 20-30mph.... i slammed my brakes and turned around and by the time i got back there one of the kids fathers was reeling him in the house yelling back, "sorry about that, it won't happen again, i'll take care of this!"

i'm sure the kid got worse than the yelling i woulda done...

Sometimes you talk such nonsense.. That was an oxymoron!

HONEST people don't steal...

I like this one though hehe, although your average junkie (who would steal a helmet with or without strap) is more likely to steal the headlice remover :rofl_200:

The BarEnders don't alter vibration, at least not that I can feel.

Incidentally, the mirror/lever mounts are not hard-indexed with a metal tab like many bikes are. Loosen them and you can rotate them. I rotated the clutch lever up about 3 degrees and it's a better grab for me.

Its an Oregon Scientific ATC-1000, They have a newer version out that has a higher frame per second rate (30fps vs. 15fps @ 640x480 res), but its more expensive. you can see from the following videos its still pretty smooth at 15fps. The ACT-1000 will go up to 25fps but your resolusion will decline. The ATC-2000 takes a 2gb SD ram card. I've ran a 2gb SD card in the ACT-1000 without any problems, (its only listing the 1gb card in the manual).
There has been some rumors about the 2000 being able to use a 4gb card as well.

I've knocked this thing around several times, even smacking it against the wall hard enough to knock it off the helmet and fall to the floor, and it's holding up well.

here is a write up I did of it :

Here is one on ebay currently going for $10.50 with 15hrs left:

and the ATC-2000 for $78 w/free shipping:

There is also the ATC-3000 that takes a 4gb card and has a wider view, otherwise its like the 2000, and the ATC-8000 which is like the 3000 c'ept water proof up to 10' and has a video display.

Here are a few videos from my ATC-1000, the thing picks up wind noise so I ended up putting a little bit of hot glue in the mic to help cut it down. The faster you go the more noise you pick up. No biggie if you dub music in your vids.

Getting the sound right has been tough. My chasecam recording unit is separate from the camera and has a built-in microphone. I moved it around, wrapped it in towels and adjusted its sensitivity. The Vmax is a hard sound to do justice to.

Here is a BMW K1200R vid. It's a Sony lipstick cam connected to a chasecam. Check my "other vids" and there is one short Vmax clip.

Now that i's warmer and the bike has 2000 miles I'm ready to get out with the camera again.

Get a rope!! :th_biggun:
