Finally got to look at one and it actually looked better in person than in the zines. I still want to check out the RSV4 but I heard they just recalled all bikes..will have to wait until spring (plus nearest dealer is 100 miles away)

They're great looking bikes. I saw one at the MotoGP last summer. It was white and looked great.

My local BMW dealership in San Diego is giving test rides on the SS1000 next week.I intend to be first in line.....:thumbs up: I got to sit on one @ the CycleWorld show.WOW!! what a bike.

I met a guy this summer with a K1300S.....man, what a beautiful machine!! Don't know the cost, but I expect it's pretty high!
I guess it depends on what's high nowadays. The BMW I was looking at was the S1000RR...fully loaded - ABS, shifter upgrade, and TC...the works for just over $15K. That seems like a great price to me for what you get.

I'm keeping my eye on them. As used ones become available I'll be looking to pick one up. Besides the Vmax I have always wanted a BMW bike ever I saw the boxer engined ones when I was a kid.

The K1300S looks like an awesome machine too.

My dealer is also giving demo rides on it..as well as the Duc streetfighter so I will try them in the Spring. Only concern is insurance. I'll have to do some insurance comparisons. I've heard both may be over 2000 per year for full coverage

Saw the S1000RR at the Atlana Motorcycle Show yesterday. Looked fast sitting still. :eusa_dance: I thought I heard it was for sale at around $12
K . Didn't look at the sticker while I was there though. :damn angry:

The pix you posted were the same as the one that I saw at MotoGP. They start around 12 but like all BMWs (or German stuff in general :D)...options are pricey. You get one with the trimmings for around $15K. If you want fancy paint add another $700+ or so. :)

ABS and TC are options.

Nice! I'd like a demo ride or a test drive.

No offense to any 2nd gen Max owners who read this, but compared to the New Max the S1000rr with 193hp and 404 lbs for $14,000 seems like a pretty good deal to me!

yeah, but I seriously doubt people cross shop the Vmax with the SS1000.

I really like the Bmw. With the Japanese 1000s now cresting 14k OTD, the SS is a great deal with the options available.

It's good that BMW is trying to build a motorcycle without all the typical "Quirky" BMW features like goofy front suspensions that do not add to the bike except for higher $ , goofy engine layouts, shaft drive setups with bizarre linkages - (Hey if those things worked, why aren't they on the S1000 competing in World Superbike?).

Although I want to see it measured here in the states for power. Lots of folks talking about it's great peak power, but anyone who deals with tuning knows that the EPA changed it's rules for measuring sound level. Now the volume is measured where peak power is delivered. As a result all the 2009 bikes that were carryover models lost power compared to the 2008's.

Considering the Aprilia RSV4 finished as well as 4th in WSB and the US models only make 144 to 150 ponies and Euro mags are claiming that the S1000R makes 183 on a Dynojet, somehow the S1000 needs a 40 horse advantage to finish a best of something like10th? That's either one bad handling motorcycle (in order to finish 5 places behind at best with such a power advantage) OR we'll see a a lot less ponies out of the US model bikes.

I'm still waiting for a REAL magazine test and would love to see the RSV4 go head to head against the S1000.

I beg to differ. BMW's front and rear suspension set ups are certainly quirky, but to say it's for nothing isn't accurate in my opinion. I've put about 30,000 miles on one that I owned. The front suspension works as intended. There's no suspension transfer to the front when braking it applied. The bike stays level and keeps the rear tire in greater contact with the ground. Coupled with ABS and I'd say the BMW line of motorcycles, while being ridden by the average joe, stops better than the best Japan has to offer. I'm not talking racers or very skilled riders, the stats would sway toward the Japanese sport bikes. BMWs have awesome braking abilities and are accessible by the masses. Largely due to the front suspension set up.

Not saying it's over priced for what it is, just saying, I can't afford one, well, I could, but I refuse to pay that much for a bike

Sorry if it offended you. I just don't see the reasoning for a front end that is not good enough to put on a bike raced in World Superbike. If the front end is so good, why not put it on the bike they actually race? I've never liked the feel of those front ends. There needs to be some setting of the chassis as one enters a corner. The decrease in rake and trail helps turn in. You can say it's not necessary, but if that's true, why did BMW revert to conventional forks for the bike that NEEDS to win?

I admit I have a bit of a bad feeling towards BMW. I worked for a BMW shop when I was kid growing up in the business and the most backward company was BMW. Known issues like gauge cluster failures that they refused to warranty until complete failure, smoking K bikes that were not recalled but covered if WE as a dealer complained enough and more were reasons I started to question the perceived superiority of these machines. I just never grew to love them - even though I tried.

I'd get to ride a used bike on a ride with a group of folks from the shop and the Service Manager would look at me wide eyed eagerly asking -"So what do you think? Nice huh?" Meanwhile I was longing to have taken my FZR1000 on the ride.

Now as a dyno shop owner I'm greeted with one brand of bike that has owners hoping I can fix the balky fuel injection as delivered by the factory - even though I've had owners bragging about being on their third or fourth factory reflash of the ECM to fix stalling issues and part throttle fueling issues.

I just can't understand why people fall in love with them.

Friend of mine has a newer BMW. Can't remember the model but it looks like the fancy enduro with the opposed 2 cylinders?. He loves it. I have ridden it a few times and it feels like you are riding a park bench down the road.... or riding a toolbox down the road. His bike is awesome for carrying gear, bags, luggage, etc. It just feels lifeless to me otherwise, and it really isn't all that fast. He raves about it all the time, though.

I do have to compliment the way his bike brakes though. I was riding it and he was on my Max and he slowed down and was making a turn and I didn't see him doing that until I was right up on him. I got into the brakes pretty good and even though there was some gravel on the road, I was able to quickly and safely slow down and make the turn. I couldn't have on the V-Max. Probably the ABS kicked in without me noticing.

No offense taken. Were I 25 years younger, I'd probably want one, too. I laid eyes on the S100RR yesterday, a beautiful bike indeed.

I will prefer a K1300R, super sport bikes sitting position is not fun in traffic.
But I agree it's dammed nice bike, especially is black or carbon :)
