I just finished up all my mods with the installation of Marks 4 into 2, 14" Cans and 2" Cores. I'm just wanting to double check the carb set up for sea level. I took the bike out last night and it seems to be running pretty well with the stock carbs, K&N Filter, Y still installed. I'm very impressed and wondering why I didn't buy these pipes a long time ago. They Rock...

Help point me in the direction of a thread that will help me or let me know what you've done to set the carbs up right for sea level. Thanx....

I would follow Dannys lead, hes not too too above sea level I don't think...

Dave, I shimmed the needles 1mm (.038") and backed the A/F screws out 3 1/4 turns....both bikes have the identical carb settings and run very well.

Think I'd start with that and see how it goes.....I'm around 1100' ASL.

i can attest to his set up as he and i stretched our legs on the taconic a few times and we are neck to neck all the way past 105mph. i got a kerker with stg 7. dan's set up is spot on. I only had a chance against his slower bike, dont want to bother with his 99 til i give him 2 quarts of ice cream to slow his shifting reactions down a little to give me ahead start :)

Thanx, I think I was told all of this before but after the last 4 days of working on the bike, my brain is mush. I got the bike out, took some pictures and rode it pretty hard when I got on the Interstate. I think those minor changes will work very well. It's about as loud as I would want so I'm leaving the packing alone.:biglaugh:

Looks great Dave....nice job. Depending on what you want the cans looking like a little Wenol polish will really shine them up....as Redbone said, you can get them nearly chrome like if you want.

the two boxes are to distract you man, make you hungry for more and maybe lose concentration on the race to give me the upper hand hahahaha

Nice polish job on the cans. Mine sorta match my side covers right now. I'm just happy they're on right now. I'm hooked on the sound......:biglaugh:

Hi, I live in Alexandria - Egypt, that is at sea level, I live by the Mediterranean Sea.
My max is 2004. Congratulations on your choice on Mark's exhaust, he is a great guy and his exhaust sounds as great. I keep getting compliments from other bikers and motorheads for the American Muscle exhaust note.
I also added Sean's Muscle kit - he is another great guy to deal with too.
It made a huge and noticeable difference in performance when I added his kit.
I recommend you that combination if you are looking for the added performance and can tell the details once I am back home next week.... just let me know

Wow, and Hello. I live in Pinellas County, Florida. Parts of it are likely below Sea Level but not much.

I've wanted Marks Exhaust since the first time I saw and heard the video of a 91 VMax Idling and then running on the street. The sound is addicting. I've bought several things from Sean. We, VMaxers will never be able to thank him enough for being the great person and supplier that he is. I had much less contact with Mark but he seems to be much the same. I would be very happy to hear about your set up and jetting for Sea Level.

I understand about being away from home and trying to give information to others. I set myself up this year when I went on Vacation so I could access my home computer and information using a netbook from a remote location. I had to keep up with things here and at AR15. com where I'm a Tester / Writer.

I'll be awaiting word from you when you are home again. Thanks...

Added Halloween Night: For now, I shimmed the needles 0.029 and set the Air / Fuel 3-1/2 turns out.

Okay SpecOps13, I will explain my setup and maybe you can later help me with a bunch of firearms ( just kidding !! )

I have installed Mark's full exhaust and added to it Sean's air filter setup and carb kit including stage 7 softer springs, stock diaphragm and stock needles but added one shim. I also installed air correctors and main jets then synched the carbs. The bike had a nice intial pull but from about 5000 rpm something was wrong. It felt like a very lean mixture, you open the throttle and ..... nothing happens. I started adding a second shim. To cut the long story short I ended up using stage 7 needles and used a set of drilled diaphragms that I had from another carb. I changed main jets several times and ended up using 167.50. I do not have access to a dyno and this is what I felt that it gives me the best performance despite the comments that it is probbaly too rich.
I am still riding the bike several thousands miles and no spark plugs fouling.
I also added later the T-boost and will never regret it. I tried to make a home-made one but it was a disaster. Today the weather was nice, the tarmac was dry and I took it for a spin and I could say I am very happy with the results and even if I am off that would not be by much. At any throttle position if I am cruising at 60 mph and suddenly twist the throttle wide open, the bike just pulls like a train with no hesitation.
Have fun tuning your bike and let me know if you need me to elaborate...

adamax: I copied and pasted your info to wordpad so I can study it. I presently have the stock needles shimmed 0.029 and have adjusted the Air / Fuel 3-1/2 turns out. Seems to be strong with big gains in the mid range... I should be rich too but it doesn't feel like it is. I haven't checked the plugs but will.

Thanks,
Dave

So how many is a bunch...:rofl_200:

SpecOps13,
been following your threads regarding carb set-up with your Marks pipes. I too picked up Mark's 4-2 special; pipes arrived last Wednesday .... they look GREAT and I'm soooo looking forward to hearing them roar ! I'm putting them on this weekend, even though it's a tad chilly here in mid-Michigan today; 30s now. ( But, next week - back in the 50s - low 60s they say:clapping:) Still plenty of riding days left before the Max goes into hibernation for the winter !

As many have previously said, Mark's been great to work with and his 4-2 pipe system looks well designed / quality built.

For my stock 06, I plan on starting with the needle shims & A/F settings you have gone with per your postings, which is similar to what others have recommended in different posts / threads.

Special thanks to all the VMax Forum contributors for all the information postings they provide. For many of us who have tried to avoid the Mod Monkey, but still ended up getting bit - the information / tips / suggestions this group provides makes these modifications soooooo much easier to complete. :thumbs up:

KosRider: You may already be in the middle of doing this upgrade. Hope you've found the thread with my mod misadventures as it may save you some time. I'm working on a help thread to explain how the center stand works quite well with the Marks Exhaust. I know that's a concern for many who are planning on buying after market Exhaust. I added the stand but for those who already have a center stand, it should be a matter of a minor bend to the stand actuator leg. Or, some have experienced the need to remove a small amount of material from one pad... The rubber bumper gets moved from the stand to a mounting point on the exhaust cross over. This keeps the stand from hitting the exhaust system..

I'll check this thread as often as I can. Let me know here if I may be of assistance....

Good Luck, You're gonna Love how it sounds, it's Awesome...

SpecOps13,
well, got the stock exhaust system off and the new Marks on & hanging.
I knew that the stock muffler system was going to be heavy, but WOW it's heavy; just like everyone says !!! It took longer to remove the stock exhaust system (with all the covers and guards and crap that went with it) than it took to put tne new Marks on. What a well designed system those Marks are ! I believe it was Redbone who said to keep everything loose as your putting everything together. Worked for me ! Too bad that we can't reuse the back heat shield the attached to the right rear stock pipe. Thought that would have been useful, but guess it's not needed.

Forgot to get a couple std metric nuts for the inside pipes to replace the two inside stock 8mm hex / allen head nuts that you can't get an allen wrench on to tighten !! I remember reading this in a post / thread somewhere here; might have been yours.

I just moved the center stand rubber bumper, after reading your reply, to a mounting point on the exhaust cross over and cautiously tried lowering the bike off the center stand. I must be lucky - cause it goes up and stops on the bumper without touching any of the pipes or muffler !!! :eusa_dance: No mods to the center stand needed !!

Tomorrow, tighten everything up, shim the carb needles, readjust the A/F settings.... and hopefully ride.... ride .... ride !!!!!
