Anyone know where I can find a clean download for Java JRE V6 update 45 for 32 bit explorer?

We use a client website to view and print their drawings. My browser auto updated to the newest version of Java and now, it will not run the application. I can no longer view or print the drawings I used to be able to.

I talked to tech support for the website and was told the Java version above is what I need to use to view them.

I visited the Oracle and Java websites but, could not find this version. It is available for 64bit Explorer (which I tried since I have both 64 and 32 bit browsers) but, it did not work. Can't find the 32 bit version. I also tried it thru Mozilla firefox with no luck

I see it can be downloaded from various sources on the web but, I'm leary about downloaded from unknown sites.

I see 3 windows downloads there. X86 and X64. I downloaded x64 and it was for 64 bit explorer. Not sure wat x86 was. Are any of those for 32 bit explorer?

We have issues with Java and specifically one of our applications (timekeeping software) did not like the newest versions. Reverting to an older version seems to work. EDIT: Java security level may be affecting as well, again our aging timekeeping software did not like the high (recommended) setting so moving it to medium fixed that issue.
We also had some other applications that had issues with IE 11, and since when you updated to IE 10 there is a little check box, that is by default checked, which automatically updates to IE 11. This for us was confined to our hospitality application.

X64 =64 bit so OF COURSE x86 would =32 bit. :ummm: It's as clear as mud.

THANKS Dennis and Tex. Appreciate it. I will try that when I get back into the office.

Brian, I see you referring to security level. I'm a little confused here. Do you mean security level set in your browser or is there a way to set it in Java?

There are differing versions of Java dependent upon the OS (XP or W7). In Windows 7 you can have either 32 bit or 64 bit OS's but I believe setting the security level is for 32 bit systems only. I haven't done extensive research on this so if I'm feeding Mike a line here please correct me, for Mike's sake (possibly others!).
Edit: I really didn't answer your question, setting the security level is with in the Java program itself (found funny enough under the security tab). (Start/ Control Panel/ Java)

X86 has to do with processor architecture, if you think back to some older equipment I am sure you owned at some point. 80186. 286, 386, and the beastly 486, are all chips I owned in the past (some even supported a turbo button for added speed!). As you can see ending in 86 was common on all Intel chips and once the past the 3 digit threshold all Intel chips were then referred to as x86 while PowerPC and AMD had different architectures. Now all chips are 64bit capable, but often limited by the OS or other application to 32bit, hence the need for x86 application support.

Clear as mud?

:punk:

Try a windows "system restore" prior to the date of the updated java install, cant hurt anything, it may revert your java back to your old working version...

sun coded up their online installers pretty sophisticated-like nowadays, to the point where they can detect your proc arch and browser pref and then install the appropriate vm. am surprised that you didnt experience this...perhaps you are trying to do something custom?

This only works for the latest greatest build. He needed a legacy build in order for software he was using to operate properly.

My 486 used to really scream when I hit the "turbo" button on my homebuilt machine.. Like it had VBoost or something....

Those were the days, Windows fit on floppies - after you installed MD-DOS (DOS 6 ruled!).
Used real 5.5" floppies that held 1.2 megabytes. 360 megabyte hard drives......

Primitive as those machines were, they didn't crash too often. Did we really get better with Win95??
