Coolant leak in my 04

Started dripping at the elbow joint lower right side. This is the tube that connects the engine to the radiator. Happened in Colorado on my trip. We put aluma seal in it along with a McGiverish section of bicycle inner tube cut to size and a hose clamp.
Got home ok, but need to get an idea what I'm dealing with?

O-rings. If you mean the plastic elbow. Not bad to replace. Clean the surfaces well and lightly grease the O-rings for install.

O-ring, they dry up over time. You might gently tap on it and see if it will seal back up or get a new set. I would replace them. I think their is one on both sides. If I understand where you are talking about. Temp changes/ elevation caused mine to leak. It was pretty easy to fix. You can get a o-ring kit from harbor freight. Cheap or northern tool.

I removed the water pump cover when servicing that. You will need that cover gasket as well.

Right.
Don't think your gonna wiggle the elbow out of there without pulling the pump cover.

Yes, a light press fit, no fasteners holding the elbow. The O-rings keep it snug.

Go to the search "How to replace your water pump seals" also I recommend you download the maintenance manual from Vmaxoutlaw.com , it's free. Usually there is tons of how to's on the forum, just look around.

That should help with a visual of whats going on here.

The elbow runs between the water pump housing and the engine block.
If you want to remove the elbow, you need to remove the water pump.

You should buy the paper gasket that goes between the pump and block.

You may consider replacing the o-ring for the water pump cover. Typically reusable but you never know.

I know I'm being a pedant but it goes into the thermostat housing.

+1 and you can take it out by removing the T-stat housing too, but I'd pull the pump and take the opportunity to inspect and maybe change the ceramic seal at the same time if needed. If changing the seal, find the threads that list the parts needed.Or just ask & order from Sean, you'll get what ya need. The impeller shaft bearing is worth changing if the seal is worn. Just thinking ahead and spending your money for you.

I'll be doing my water pump seals later this week, if you need pics or even want a video, let me know. After a ride Monday I had some coolant out the weep hole.
