So I took my stock 2015 bike drag racing in Gulfport MS and found out I suck but I have no experience other than that night doing so 🤷🏻‍♂️… Is this ok for stock gen 2 vmax?
Was running just 93 octane & Metzler 888 tires

My 2 best runs of 5 total that night… The stretched Hayabusa with racing modifications smoked me 🥲

You should be trapping much higher mph's even if your elapsed time is slow from a poor launch. The times you are are similar to what a decent running gen 1 would be. You should have MPH's in the 130's at least! Keep practicing and make sure you're using all of the throttle and not shifting too soon.

Yeah I only got 5 runs in before heading out. Still very new at it but felt like rpm restrictions were taking over way sooner and not really letting me get to red line so I started shifting at like 9kish or is that bad?
I really should get a ECU flash done to take the collar (muzzle) of the beast 😅

Yeah I have messed with that but I mean the factory limitations they seem to put on bike leaving factory
On my bike, when I first got it, I played with those. 9500, 10000, and 10500 were my selections. Mine would rev limit at the set limit I selected. I think yours may be selected at the 9500 limit. I have mine set at the 10000 limit.

Pretty sure this setting is for when you want light to come on to tell you to gear up and doesn't limit your rpms… correct me if wrong

I agree, I think it’s only the shift light turning on. Rev limiter is set by ECU from what I have seen by guys tuning on YouTube.

John, Thanks for posting your drag racing experience. Loved watching the footage and seeing how it goes. I’ve set my shift light up at a few different points but I think I’ll just make them the same to keep it simple.

I’m taking my Gen2 to the drags in few weeks and I’ll post the time slips. It will be my first time to take a bike. I’ve been practising my launches on the street and am wondering what revs to launch at. It looked like you launched at about 4K rpm.

I actually was not really launching at any rpm cause I was trying to be extra safe… I am down here for military training and if I did hurt myself drag racing it would really make for a shit storm… I was playing it extra safe within my skill level pretty much

So finally took my bike to Sydney dragway for a quick run.

Was a very busy night as it was a bike night and apparently there hasn’t been one for ages so there were hundreds of bikes, or so it seemed.

Haven’t been there for decades so was a bit of a blast from the past. Got through all the queues and lined it up.

Took off with about 5K rpm on the clock, no wheelspin and didn’t feel like it was going to either… I guess I was just to kind. 🤣

Ran through the traps with a 10.6 at 123mph. I have a small suspicion that I backed off the throttle before the end of the strip. To be honest, I didn’t know where the finish line was. I was expecting to see a line or something.

Was looking forward to a second run, but when I got to the front of the line with a H2 next to me, the heavens opened up and the track was shut. Night over.

The problem was the 50 km ride home with my daughter on the back. Got home all okay, did lose traction a few times but held it together. Unfortunately, I also found a screw in the brand-new battleax. .😩. Oh well I guess it didn’t go flat on the ride home so that’s a plus.

Looking forward to the next night, I think I can improve it. Would like to know what is a good RPM to leave the line at and what tyre pressures seem to work well. Other than that, I probably just need to rev it harder and see the shift light that I had set at 9500RPM. I don’t remember seeing it.

Cheers fellow Vmaxers.

I finally made it to the track as well on my 2009 vmax. I showed up with just me and my knapsack when everyone else had trailers and crew as well as all the bikes were dedicated track bikes (stretched and boosted) started with an 11.1 at 136mph and best run of the night was a 10.5 at 142mph. Pretty happy for it being my first time out; having a hard time slipping the clutch so much to get out of the hole, just so unnatural so far. Best run was actually with a soft launch and immediately on the throttle; all my runs produced a power up wheelie in first with a shift into 2nd before the front came down. Also did not take any air out of rear tire as I have plenty of grip due to all the ‘ballast’ I am carrying (lol I’m 250lbs+😕)

Love it 🫡
Yeah next time I go I need to let some air out of my tires. I just need more practice with my take off but I think getting a ECU flash will make a big difference also 🤔

Very nice. Great improvement from 11.1 down to a 10.5 and a lot faster too end. Does it spin the wheels when they are fully inflated?
The track was prepped and I’m still learning to get out of the hole with more rpm so for now I didn’t experience any slip, it’s a different story on regular roads though…😉
