Yea, I almost bought the scanner and have contacts with the plastic mold maker. Not as cheap as you'd think though.

They say under $3000 for the scanner, but I wonder how much for the plastics printer?


Really cool technology.
 
Seem to remember first hearing about this technology in a Jay Leno column in Popular Mechanics. Talked about how it was going to "save" so many of the old Dusenburg straight-eights that all have warped heads.

Give it a few years, the price will be cut in half just like any new technology. Remember how much HDTV's used to cost a couple years ago?
 
They actually have a metal printer now too. Uses powdered metal and then not sure how the curing process works. Basically makes a casting. Might be watching to get one for a bargain eventually.

I am pretty sure the metal printer uses a CO2 laser to fuse the metal particles together. Works essentially the same as the stereolithography machines that make the plastic parts.
