Thanks guys, it's really cool having her back!

Funny story....I asked the guy if he had the owners manual and he said no, he never got one with the bike. I was a little disappointed but, if he didn't have it, then he didn't have it.

I was pulling stuff off today to clean & polish and remembered a little compartment behind the right side cover and I thought.....I wonder....:hmmm:

So I pulled the side cover off and there it was, all tightly rolled up in a zip-loc baggie....right where I had put it over 20 years ago....the owners manual!!

Now it doesn't want to unroll....I got it pressed under a couple heavy books, hope it doesn't take another 20 years to flatten back out! :biglaugh:

That's funny , hope he did some maintenance on her in 20 years , even if he didn't take the side cover off ! LOL

Glad you got her back.

I've owned two 650 Maxims, a new one in 1982 for my ex and a used 1981 in 2003 that I fixed up with custom paint and 4/1 exhaust system and other mods. I always liked the 1982 650 Seca and the 550 Secas.

I seem to remember that compartment held a chain and lock that came with the bike. May be wrong though.

You hit that right on the head Rollie.....no need to find the manual if you don't do any maintenance!! This guy did NOT treat my baby very well. He kept the outside looking ok but, the fluids....a nightmare! The gas was the color of motor oil, the coolant the color of used motor oil and the motor oil was the color of thinned down asphalt....valve cover gasket has long term leak and the gas tank has a shitload of rust! :bang head:

Not a huge deal tho....all that can be un-done and she will become a Happy Bike once more! :hippy biker:

I don't remember a chain & lock in there, actually think that's where the manual always was on the XJ.

I liked all of those little Yami's from that era....there was some damn quick bikes back then!
