This has probably been discussed before, but I am wondering what kinda mpg's you all are getting. My bike is an 86 w/ ~15k miles, K&N filter, Y removed from A/B, Supertrapps, Open V-Boost and carbs tuned with an A/F meter. I get about 75 miles before the low fuel light comes on, and when it comes on I have to switch to reserve or I am outta gas in minutes! I think that is putting me at about 25mpg, I have never had a bike suck that much fuel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Gas Milage

if i ride easy and not much horse play i get about 40 mph on the open rd. sounds like its running rich maybe w/open boost.

Re: Gas Milage

Plug vboost back in unless you're running stage 7 kit.

i got some dinner in me and used the search button, looks like 35 is average for stock bikes, what about the people running with the boost open?

Re: Gas Milage

With stage 7 and/or Morley's airbox I got anywhere from 36 - 44.

Re: Gas Milage

I have stage 7 and open boost, i get about 100 miles per tank till my light turns on.
That's with some gunning around too.

Re: Gas Milage

Hot dogging around town I get 34 mpg, on an all-day ride I get closer to 40. The push me soon light comes on at about 110 miles. My 2003 V-Max is (for now) completely stock. First we fix the handling, then we worry about more power. :biglaugh:

about 25-30 with a TON of horseplay and NEVER letting up on the throttle.... ONE OF THESE DAYS....I'll try to ride normally to see the REAL mileage.....no cranking the throttle and no tboost.....lol
(It's like trying to quit smoking....I know I should but its hard.....hahahaha)

Re: Gas Milage

I hear ya on the gas milage. I ride with a few harleys and a lot of tupperware torpedo's and its pretty embarrassing having to get gas every 85 miles when they can go twice as far sometimes.

Most of it is the rider, I cant say ive ever run a full tank through without horseplay. I have cobra 4-4 slashcuts and i know im running pretty rich as well. The most miles ive ever got on a full tank including reserve was 93.

You guys who are getting 40+ mpg, Are you granny'ing it or what?

Edit:

I also know carb sync can have a major effect on gas milage. I bought one of the vaccum guage sets off jc whitney and tried to sync to the best of my ability, but let me tell you i sure wish i had gone with mercury guages instead. I swear its impossible to get it right with these junk ass things! they fluctuate madly and one you get them where you think they are set right bam back to square one.

My vboost is open at all times, I am running 170 dynojet mains with two coils cut out of the slide springs, no needle shims, idle screw at 2.75 turns out, otherwise stock carbs, no Y on the airbox and ufo pipes and get between 31-35 running 75-80 mph. My low fuel light comes on at 95-105

I have experimented a little with the vboost open or closed and on my setup at least it doesn't really seem to effect mileage either way...

Re: Gas Milage

I have always got about 80 miles ,once in awhile 100 till the light comes on.Probably worse now.I had to order new pilot jets(from 37.5 to 42.5) because it is too lean.My air fuel screws are at 5.5 turns now and too lean still.Makes it a bitch on the street.

Re: Gas Milage

I have a 97' and everything in the carbs is stock as far as I know. I tend to get about 100-114 miles before the light comes on. This is with moderate to no endevors into boost. If I play with the power all day, I've had the fuel light come on as low as 78 miles.

So generally, I'm averaging about 35/37 mpg. Most of the time I fill up before the damn light comes on.

But I hear you guys about having to fuel before many of the other bikes you may ride with. My wife's Sv650 gets about 170 miles to a tank and her tank is only .3 larger. :bang head:

Re: Gas Milage

Usually high 30's to low 40's in general riding. Have seen high 40's on an extended freeway drown on the way to Laguna Seca from Reno. I have the T-boost open often---- just to much fun.

Re: Gas Milage

I get about 90-100 miles per tank, about 25 mpg. I always tell everyone that if we see a gas station I am going to stop and fill up, I will catch up to them.

Re: Gas Milage

At a little over 90 miles my feul light starts flashing, as a few others have stated I was supprised how fast the bike runs out of gas after the feul light comes on, it seems like they could have given us just a tad bt more time to hit the res. switch...

Re: Gas Milage

The reason is because when the fuel sender switch is turned on it immediately shuts off the fuel pump. So, you have until the float bowls are empty to switch to RES. and turn the pump back on.

Re: Gas Milage

On a related matter.

Almost evryone I ride with needs 3.18 gallons to fill up if they fill up SOON after hitting reserve. Is this about what everyone else is seeing?

And when I do hit reserve I have never run out of gas and have gone as far as 20 miles (not smart)

Re: Gas Milage

Weird, that tells me that something is up with your fuel pump relay and/or switch. Unless....you have 1/2 gallon float bowls. :)

My low fuel light comes on after about 2.7 gallons.
