My starter clutch is pooched, waiting for parts... In the mean time I removed the stator cover and have baked on gasket material on the engine and the cover. Very tough to remove carefully with a sharp blade...do not want to damage mating surfaces
Has anyone tried a gasket remover on these particular parts? I am concerned about damaging the paint on the cover and block if some happens to spill....is there any sold which do not damage paint?

It is picky I know but this bike is minty and I would like to keep it that way if possible

I've always had good luck saturating the gasket with oil and then leaving it sit for awhile. I scrape what I can with a fingernail. Then use an oiled rag to saturate and pick at it some more. After that, very stubborn areas got the razor blade followed either by scotchbrite or fine sandpaper that is basically worn out already. I used oil or wd-40 as a lube while wet sanding with the scotchbrite or paper. You just have to be really careful.
