Hey vmax community, im new to the forum and i have a few questions im trying to answer, also a handful of photo comparison pictures id like to get to see whats what .

And heres why i have just got a 2001 vmax 1200 that was basically a motor on a frame + rad , wheels, and brakes, have been done...

well.. almost done. I have everything else parts wise for reassembly, i have the correct service manual, but also was given an unlabeled unorganized giant bag of bolts screws washers spacers nuts ect.

I have started doing work on it . And can only find out so much through the service manual i have . The bike has been drained of all fluids. The bike also sat for 5+ years .

I will most likely need some help through the rebuild and any help i can get would be greatly appreciated. I will also get some pictures up asap of my progress so far.

Look in the back of the factory service manual, the appendix. There's a list of nuts/bolts by location, thread & size. Torque values are in a chart also.

I find this site to be helpful for fiche views of assembly order & proper parts #'s for re-ordering.

Early bikes had some different parts, like the ignition (1985-'89), forks, downtubes, triple trees, and front brakes (1985-1992), and the '85's had a few unique parts for the intake/VBoost, footpegs, and exhaust. They also had the stamped 'VMax' side covers instead of the glued-on emblems. Your '01 should have the updated parts pretty-much across the board.

I suggest adding your bike year in your signature line, so asking questions, people can see what year you have. Also, because these bikes were made for 22 years, there is the possibility of considerable interchangeability.

Yes it is going ok . Just got the rear wheel taken off and got new tire put on after polishing the rim. And am getting the new sending unit and fuel pump stuff put together. And gunna try n get the freshly pai ted gas tank put back in this week or next.

Any suggestions for grease alternative for where the gear side of the shaft drive meets the power side of the rear wheel ? It says to used " lithium soap based grease" . Also curious if i should grease the axle that slides through the hub, and any other maintenance that should be done while i have the wheel off

170/80 H-rated by 15" should do the trick, because how often are you gonna be at 130+ mph? That's 'go to jail, & lose your license, bike confiscated' in some jurisdictions.

The rim looks nice & clean.

Is the front tire new also? If not, is the date code <3 years old? The front end looks great.
