Sorry. I don't understand the point of those at all. Might as well just buy an hid kit if you are relaying your wire all the way to the battery.

Maybe I'm missing something. Do you have before and after pictures?

With the use of relays, the headlight (makes horn louder too if you wire it up to its own relay) gets it's own, for lack of a better word, clean power. This will increase the light output of a stocker headlight.
Here are some pictures here. http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=1734&highlight=vmax+today&page=115

All of the power for your headlight runs through your start button and ignition switch. Thats two different points where you are relying on just a friction contact to pass all that wattage through. With the relay kit, the ignition and start button are only passing the "signal" current to trip the relay to send all the clean power to the headlight.

I have had the HID system from DDM tuning for over 3 years now. It works great Once you go with HID you won,t go back to a regular bulb. I have not had one problem with it. I think they have the best price too.

Where do you guys stow the igniter?

Yeah!!!!!!!!

Just got back from riding the darkest back country roads you can find.

The ZXE's are awesome. Shines much brighter, much wider, much farther, much whiter!!

And if what those guys are saying about relays is true, my light would be so bright I would need to squint if I had one of those. :)

HID's in the winter. For now... 2 bulbs for $60 with no wiring relaying involved... Go ZXE

If only they made them for my truck

Check out the pictures of me riding in the dark at www.imridinginthedarksoobviouslytherearenopictures.com

Sorry. I had to

The ballast and relay both fit behind my left scoop along with all the wiring too. As spyder said, once you go HID, no turning back....

BTW, the DDM HID costs under $50 compared to your two ZXE bulbs for $60.

Just a piece of mind!

Just checked out thier website. Good call, talk about a great price. $45 for thier 35w, dual headlight system. Next paycheck I'm going to place an order if everything falls into place with the install. The people who make my light have never put an HID light in them. But, they're a high quality headlights and should be able to take a little more heat. They have an H7 - 55w bulb in them now. They that way from the makers, so they should hold up.

Generally up here in the summer, the sun doesn't go down until the fall season. For visibility I run with both my headlights lit up. I'm thinking now I can just run the one and adjust the other for the highbeam as the design intended. As for the ballast location, I'm thinking the space in there with the Dyna should be sufficient. If not, like michael mentioned, under the scoop will work. The double scoops that I got have plenty of room to mount everything.

Again, awesome call on DDM Tuning site :punk:

Mike recommends getting the 50w setup for $50.

Only thing is, they charge $20 for shipping.

I have a small issue with companies that claim to sell you a product for 1 price and then charge 4 times the price of actual shipping for shipping.

The us post charges $5 for shipping anywhere in the US a box that could hold 3 of those sets.

So now we are talking about $70 and you get 1 bulb.

To appropriately compare the 2 items you would need to add on the cost of 1 more extra bulb on top of the $70.

And since it takes about 2 hours to install the hid's and who knows how long to receive your order, and since it stays light out till past 9:00 p.m. here, I personally decided to just get a bright white bulb for now.

Plus, there is some real controversy about hid's in stock headlights.

Mike's worked out great for him, but some other forum members experiences were not as pleasant.

Some people's issues were: HID light blinds oncoming traffic due to improper housing unit.

Light bulb would not fit into stock housing and the housing's back needed to be hacked off.

Like I said, I still plan on getting HID's in the winter when I am actually riding in the dark more than once a month.

For Now... I live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The roads here are considered the best motorcycle roads in the Easter half of the States. If anyone would like to ride, shoot me a mail. We will probably be back by dark and you may not get a chance to show off your lights, but I guarantee you'll have the time of your life.

The other issue I hear with the HID is that you can burn out the igniter with quick cycling when starting the bike. Have you had any issue with this? Or did you add a switch for your headlight or add a delay module?

Right now I'm running twin 6" Hella FF75 lights with 55w H7 bulbs. They say it has a high temp resistant reflector in it, but I wonder if it would melt down on me.

Dimensions: 1/2"H x 6 1/4"W x 3 13/16"D
Uncompromising long-term quality through use of high temperature resistant magnesium reflectors.
Good luminous efficiency with computer calculated free-form reflectors.
State-of-the-art halogen H7 bulbs.
New bracket technology offers flexible mounting possibilities.

*update* well I took the plunge. I ordered a 35w double headlight kit in 6000k. It should arrive next week with install to follow in the evening.

Ah, s$%#@)&*^&!!!!!!

I posted a long reply & lost the post when I tried to send it.
Bottom line, + for the DDM HID's & thanks for the tip on the relays. I had seen the Eastern Beaver site before, but had forgotten about it. Good tips. Cheap & effective. I have DDMtuning HID installs on 3 family vehicles & am very satisfied.

Good to hear about the DDMtuning. I'm a bit bummed its going to take longer to get here. The site says USPS Priority shipping. But When I got my tracking number, I noticed its actually USPS International Priority comming out of china. Oh well, a few days later isn't going to hurt. Much. :biglaugh:

I have HID's on my truck, with PIAA housings, and there is a system on my Dad's Explorer for the Primary and the driving lights, Although they are from a different company. Sucks cause I would have bought them from DDMtuning. They had the better price, thats why I went with them this time.

Reading some good things about them puts my mind at ease.

Hey Dave,

I have had mine for over a year now without issues. Single bulb and its no issues at all. Not sure why others say they had to modify the stock housing since I know at least 6 people now have installed my setup without any issues too and love it. If your a vmoa member, check the back inner cover of the Summer 2011 VBoost. I did a write-up in there and quite a few members jumped on the band wagon.

I am quite happy with this setup and I wouldn't change back!

Ok, thanks, I would say that may be the next step then!

I'm still waiting for my original bulb to burn out. I guess if you don't produce heat or put out much light you can last indefinitely.

Who wants to sell me an actual headlight then, so l can go ahead and make the switch over to a bluish bulb or something fancier than stock?

Get an EMGO 7" round headlamp/lens, for an H7 replaceable bulb, and then either a good halogen bulb, not blue (not 7000 K+) or go HID. Get a 5000 K or 6000 K value if you go w/a HID. You will need some ears to mount it on your bike. 43 MM downtube size is what your '03 bike has if it's a stock front end. One of my friends at the dealership said the EMGO reflector is better light-output than a Candlepower brand. 35/35W or 55/60 Watt, depending on the heat you are willing to put-up with. The EMGO is a steel bucket, so you can run a hotter bulb, probably.

Blue bulbs will get you a ticket.

Bulb is all taken care of and l do have a blue tint to the bulb, but it's mostly white still. So l do thank the people who helped me out. Bulb works great!

Since I work at a local Infiniti dealership, I have access to xenon headlamps that are to be scrapped once warranty pays out the claim. I have two xenon(HID) headlamps which I have disassembled into the bare bulbs, plugs, harnesses, and hi/lo mechanisms(a mechanical gate that covers half the bulb, for low beam operation).

I was toying with the idea of modding this and adapting it to my headlight, but there just doesn't seem to be enough room to do so.....
