Since I work at a local Infiniti dealership, I have access to xenon headlamps that are to be scrapped once warranty pays out the claim. I have two xenon(HID) headlamps which I have disassembled into the bare bulbs, plugs, harnesses, and hi/lo mechanisms(a mechanical gate that covers half the bulb, for low beam operation).
I was toying with the idea of modding this and adapting it to my headlight, but there just doesn't seem to be enough room to do so.....
Look at a H-D (yes, horrors!, a H-D!) Softail headlamp bucket, they are 7" and have a "6 o'clock" mounting position, like our 5-3/4" headlamps have, so it should be pretty-easy to adapt to the stock bottom triple-tree bracket. They have lots of room inside! The 7" H-D lens is mostly-clear, w/minimal 'fluting' (the lens facets) which is what you want w/HID lamps. The spacing on the Softtail bucket mounting requires just a few shim washers on either side to fit the VMax escutcheon plate/brake line splitter cover which holds the stock headlamp at its 6 o'clock mounting position.
And here's a sweet FZ-1 headlamp:
