I have used the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in various family vehicles, and while they give good light, they seem to have a relatively finite life span measured in months. "Your results may vary." I don't recall them lasting for years.
That's why I insisted on finding rubber-cushioned 'ears' to mount my headlight when I went to an EMGO 7" headlight shell, and a minimally-fluted lens I got off CL from a (horrors!) H-D. The difference between the stock headlight and the 7" is huge. I always felt like after 70 mph on the stock headlamp I was out of useful illumination at night. Not now.
