The relay kit is a must with either a stock bulb or higher wattage one. It ensures the full 12 volts from the battery get to the headlight.

thanks mark and 82nd...

so I would go with the top option here:
http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/H4_Kits/h4_kits.html

did u guys pick the 8 in shell holder for lead length and the main leads being fuseholder/battery connect?

i went to wallymart yesterday and they didn't have any H4STs, i think the 9003 said it was H4 compatible though, does that make sense though?

its the 8th down on this list:
http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/Products/Halogen/SilverStarProducts/

i will probably try advance/autozone today for the H4ST tho...

glad to know it will def work w/stock and i can do the relay upgrade later on tho

I found this on a couple sites..

"9003 is the SAE name, H4 is the European designation."..

weird then that sylvania has BOTH listed on their webpage.. i also found this on a ford focus forum from someone who emailed sylvania:

Thank you for your inquiry of Sylvania products. The H4 bulb is
intended for motorcycle and off road vehicles. It's design has a heavy
duty coil to withstand vibrations, whereas the 9003 coil is lighter and
intended for automobile use. The bulbs are interchangeable.

Thank You,

and finally (haha) i found this pdf which i would say doesn't completely agree with the email above:

whats your guys take?

Garrett, that one will work fine.

thanks mark.. i just realized i did way more research that is really required haha..

and i assume u meant that will work fine for both the relay and the bulb...

Yes that is the relay assembly I got.
But I got the one with the ceramic socket.
And the Bulb I got was the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra 9003/HB2 compatible with H4.

thanks 82nd! i got the exact same bulb ($23) a little much but i'm sure it will be wroth it

the EB relay w/ceramic is on the 'list' man thanks. i guess for the $2 more its worth it for the higher quality connector. thanks again guys for the help...

Hi Garrett, did you go with the shell length or the fairing length relay? Yesterday I installed the shell length... it's a tigh fit but I did get it all in there. If I had to order one again I'd go with the fairing length and tuck the relays up under the instruments.

haha i meant on the wishlist for now...

i'll keep that in mind tho.. i would have just assumed shell length would be good..

Bumpin' an old thread...

Question: Can someone explain the relay install to me? How difficult is this? I know NOTHING about wiring in anyway shape or form ...

Tfisher65 - Do you ever come to Oshawa for any reason ever?? :p

i'd honestly just try out the sylvannia superstar ultrabright or whatever. mine was $28 and everyone mentions how bright it is. i'm happy with it for the time being.

Who is running the 55/100 bulb? I need something to light up the road better than my silverstar. I am going to install the Eastern Beaver H4 relay kit when it arrives this week and may be happy with that upgrade, but maybe I will still want more light.
If you have installed the 55/100 bulb are there any heat related issues in the 1) headlight bezel and 2) wiring?
I've done the splice fix and new PC680 should arrive tomorrow. I am also going to upgrade my electrical this winter to hd ground/ starter cables and possibly newer style r/r.

I have a relay setup sitting around unused somewhere I can give to you. Mine is wired slightly different from the diagram you will see floating around, but that is due to my relays being a different model than the Dodge Neon ones that are normally used.

I will be in the 'shwa a week from Saturday and the following weekend. Are you planning on coming on our Ride to the Lake the Sunday of Labour Day weekend? Will give you a call and give you the details if you want.

For the price and the quality of the components I think the EasternBeaver kit is the best deal. The dual hi/low beam works very well. I would however recommend getting the "fairing" mount with the longer leads, as the VMax headlight bucket gets pretty cramped with the relays in it.

Yeah, been up that way once this year. Will be up again on 9/6 ~ 9/7 for the Lake on the Mountain ride. Send me a PM and we'll get in touch.
I have the Eastern Beaver H4 Single Kit. Works well although it is tight in the shell as mentioned by others.

I run the Hella 55/100 with a relay kit and I have no problems.

K guys, I realize I'm new but I'm going to attempt to bring my experience with HID into the discussion. HID headlights don't work so well on halogen types like the Vmax has, the light gets too scattered. But they do make halogen bodies with a projector inside (or you could custom build your own in sort of a retrofit).

Here's what I plan on doing after I pick up my bike next week

Pick up one of these or something similar. I've read that 7" assemblies can be mounted and I have no doubt I can find a stock-sized one if not.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/7-RO...db04c809&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245#ht_3156wt_1165

And then a cheap HID kit and build a relay kit for that.
kit here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-...51fb8d39&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245#ht_3577wt_1165

I've had no issues with the cheaper HID kits, I run them on my 95 SC300 and my 04 Yukon. These are 35W bulbs and are brighter than the 100w halogens. The kits come with parts for two, or separate components can be purchased even cheaper for a single application. They have a bi-xenon application for hi-beams but I'm not educated in how that works, yet.
