It's awesome to see some fellow vmax rider that live so close also, glad I saw this forum and joined up!

Yeah I will be keeping it mostly stock, right now my winter projects for the bike will be a better fan sensor ( bike ran a little hot today when it was 95 out, didn't hit the red but it was close, and in my city there is a lof of stop and go stuff )

And brakes all the way around ( new rotors also, they aren't dangerous or had, but the back has a couple nice marks on it and that thing looks way to thin to turn, so new it is. Also one of my buddies that used to have a vmax said one of the first things he did was rip the stock brakes out and go with some n oversized aftermarket ones which he claims saved his life more then once.
Getting close to the red is pretty common on a Vmax.....the fan won't even kick on until it hits the edge of the red.

Yeah, I read in this forum that people were upgrading the fan sensor to one that kicked on much earlier and or adding in manual switch and it was keeping the temp down below the halfway point.

Seemed like a good upgrade!

I got a 180 thermostat & a fan switch from V4MAN2014 on EBAY. The fan comes on at the half way point & shuts off before it gets back down to 180. Very happy with the set up no need for a manual switch. He has 2 switches you need the 1 that comes on at 197.5.

The PO of mine installed the different fan switch from a Ford something or other and has some water wetter stuff in the cooling sys. It barely goes past a 3rd but the fan does kick on often.
 
Hey Joe, the way to go is manual on the fan--- one on off switch and one solderless connector.

I'm just curious why would a manual switch that you have to keep a eye on the temp gauge be better then with the right set up all you have to do is sit back & ride. :ummm:

Because My Stock Switch normally doesn't let the temp go above the 1/2 point on the gauge and I Only use the manual switch when stuck in traffic in high temps.
That way my fan is only On when it really needs to be and Not coming on while riding down the highway when the bike is already running cool enough.

I don't see any reason to have the fan running when it's not needed, it's just an added strain on the charging/electrical system.
If you ask the guys that use the lower temp switch (and they are honest) they'll tell you there fan is running way more than is necessary.

Why wouldn't he.
It is posted as a sticky and many on here have made that mod.

What # thermostat do you run because the only time my fan comes on is when I sit in traffic other then that it's never on.

Why do you have to keep an eye on it? If it is a mod seems to me it would be better than a "right " set up.:ummm:

My TFS is the Stock Yamaha Fan switch.
And according to You, your fan comes on before the 1/2 mark with your aftermarket TFS.
The 1/2 mark is the Normal operating temp for a Vmax.

So it would be on pretty much all the time you're riding.

Mine never comes on while riding and when I get stuck in traffic I hit the manual switch and turn it on to keep the temps at the 1/2 mark.
Then just turn it off once I'm out of traffic again.
 
How do you know when to use your switch???

I put a radiator on that has almost twice the capacity as the stock one so it will usually run below halfway. I did the fan switch mod which requires 1 solderness connector and 1 on/off switch that is mounted next to the ignition switch. There are 4 months of 100+ degrees weather here. If the needle on the temp gauge gets above the screw i hit the switch and it usually goes back down.
