Re: PreMax love affair, what was your's?

This is my past loves along with my current love. The tiny Virago 500 dwarfed by my fathers huge 84 venture was my first motorcycle. The 76 Honda CB750K was my first true love. Its dead reliable, always starts in any temp as long as you stay with it and play with the choke and idle speed as it warms up. Its not very fast, 14.9 in the 1/4 at 80mph, but it handles well and with the luggage rack it could carry all my books and tools through school.

Re: PreMax love affair, what was your's?

I had an '86 Shadow 700 basket case that I restored & rode for 5 years - had to sell it to help pay off the 'max. I didn't really love it , but it was that or nothing. Kind of like having an ugly girlfriend - any ol' port in a storm - ya know what I mean ?

Re: PreMax love affair, what was your's?

I only had one bike before my Max. 2000 Triumph Sprint RS. It was my daily transportation for 4 years. This pic is the pic I used to sell it. It was still looking pretty good for a daily rider that was never kept inside. It helped make getting my first house possible.

Honda V65 Magna; I've owned 3 of them.

Then I figured out the Vmax was a lot better.

That 2 stroke looks wicked. I don't remember too many street 2 strokes from when I was a kid, Weren't hardly any bikes at all in my little podunk town.

Here's some of my past favorite rides:

79 Kawasaki 650 - all speed and no brakes and 1st time I experienced high speed wheel wobble
82 Honda v45 sabre - 1st v4
67 Harley Sportster 900 - my 1st frame up custom build and kickstart only - nicknamed; Lil Bitch
42 Harley WL 45cu - army issue - army green - bought it 100% original condition - bought it from the widow - he brought it back from his 1st tour and never made back from the second tour - he was going to bring back the sidecar
96 vmax - my 1st max - and the 1st jap bike after 16 years on Harleys

The one I miss the most is the 67 Sporty - one tempermental bitch, but got alot of compliments on it.

 Mike

Too many to list and I think the first ones were pre-photography.:rofl_200:

But here are two of my favs.

The XS1100E 1978 model (my first shaft drive bike) and the Moto Guzzi T3 Californian was my brothers (another shaft drive and Bored out to 1000cc).

Lots of memories here.

Re: PreMax love affair, what was your's?

1983 yamaha Seca Turbo. Still have it (no pics) and it's been through 4 engines, 1 major crash that almost took my leg (woman ran a red light), and numerous other minor incendents (dogs love to run out in front of me with this bike).

i've got a seca 900 for the bike now and will maybe be putting it in later this year. It's been 10+ years since I rode the bike last. With the 900 and the extra boost I am going to put on it I expect to get at least 150rwhp if not way more! The bike was scary to ride before and will be worse now!

Re: PreMax love affair, what was your's?

Man I love this thread, seeing all those great "old" bikes!

My first love wasn't until 1995! Mostly cause my dad always said he'd kick my ass if I bought a bike. That was the 86' Fazer, I loved it, had it for 9 years. The only other bike I would buy is the Triumph Tiger for a second bike, keepin' the Max!

Re: PreMax love affair, what was your's?

My favorite when I was growing up were dirt bikes. Honda Elsinore 250 was most lusted after but never got one. Then I picked up a YamahaDT250 then a YZ250 which I rode the hell out of. I finally ended up getting a Honda Sabre (700cc) in '85. I really wanted the 1100 but couldn't pay the price at the time. I saw the Vmax when it came out but never fode one or even rode with one. The next time I saw one was when I bought Redbone. I didn't know much about it then but I sure do now. Thanks to all the members here I have learned a lot technical wise and the love for a true classic hot rod. :rocket bike:

I've kept track over the years,,, and more years of how many bike's I've owned in those 44 years I've been riding. Sure a Mix..:rofl_200:

????? Wow, actually the XJ 1100 would be my favorite. I picked it up with 5000 miles on it at a cost of $500.00. Did the carbs then sync'd them. It had YICS induction, very similar too VBoost. At about 6k the bike became a jet fighter without wings on afterburners.

I pulled out next to a car doing 60 mph and passed the guy in a heartbeat. At the next light he asked if it had folding wings. He said as he passed me he looked back to see the bike and I was already even with him. He said he watched as if I were in warp drive... That was Priceless. Bike ran an Indicated 147 mph with one up and 142 with 2...

I traded the bike in and after the sales guy took a ride, he had the service manager ride it. I got 3 times what I paid for the bike in trade. The shop offered me a job but the pay sucked...

VMax's are a very close 2nd...:biglaugh:
