Hey guys, Iam new to motorcycles and new to the Vmax. I bought a 2003 with 7,500 miles about 2 months ago and have bought new front and rear tires as my first upgrade. (More to come :punk:)

I am getting the front tire replaced tomorrow and need to remove the front wheel for cycle gear to mount it. Like I said I am new to motorcycles but am very mechanical and know my way around.

Removing the front wheel seems very strait forward from looking at it, but I just wanted to see if there are any tips or special issues that I should be aware of before I send some important part rolling across the garage floor that I did not know about :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jordan and welcome to the site.

As far as removing the front wheel, hmm the onlything is becareful with the speedometer gear assembly and I believe it has an orentation to the wheel. If you are not sure just take digital pictures of things for when you go to put it back together.

Also you may want to put something between your brake pads to prevent them from closing up while you and your wheel are at the shop.

Thats about it from me, I am sure others will give there advice and tips.:eusa_dance:

Remove the collar from the right side before bringing the wheel in. If pops out pretty easy so might get lost.

When putting wheel back on make sure the speedo drive is lined up correctly. The tabs on the drive line up with tabs on the fork. Lube the end of the cable while you have it disconnected.

Mark,

They(dealer) don't need the speedo gear do they?

To add for Mark, there are no bolts holding the speedo or spacer in place. Once the wheel removes it simple pushes into place (the seals tend to hold them). Unhook the speedo cable from the sender before taking the wheel off.

You don't have to unhook the lines from the calipers just the two retaining bolts to the forks and let them hang. Like Yankee said you will want to be carefull and not squeeze the brake lever or you'll need to push the caliper pistons back in.
