Hungarian Technical Inspection Completed Today - Some Weirdness

I took the V-Max to the shop today for my 2-year inspection. Being that Hungary used to be a Communist country, they still have a lot of strict laws - no liberty for modification... kind of like California. But I digress...

After passing the inspection, I rode the bike home and noticed some tape on my fog lights. I did not get formal PERMISSION to add these aftermarket lights, so they put black duct tape over them. Strange.

By the way - Here in Hungary, there are very strict rules for lights. You cannot use high-beams in town. You can NOT use fog lights when it's not foggy. Believe me, they get VERY offended if your fog lights are on during a normal sunny day, AND you can get a ticket from the police. You MUST have your headlights on outside town at all times, or you get a ticket. If you take your car in for inspection with aftermarket halogen bulbs, they will order you to go install the stock dim yellow bulbs before you can pass inspection.

My aftermarket Cobra exhaust wasn't noted, because there are like 10 V-Maxes in the whole country, so they didn't know.

I had a Jersey Turnpike toll taker not raise the toll gate after I paid because I had my fogs on during a very overcast day, drizzling rain. She made me turn them off before she would raise the gate.

You have no idea. I took the "liberty" of painting my car myself - changing the color from tan to red. That generated FIVE trips to a modification office 45 minutes away (dragging our translator with me), gaining approval paperwork, pictures of everything including the odometer, then COMPLETE RE-REGISTRATION of the car.
That was horrible!

Yeah. Like my pastor told me before I moved here, "Communism has always been an enemy of liberty." I've been able to apply that single statement to everything from auto maintenance to buying bread. "No, you cannot buy 3 of those. Someone else might need one." Or, "Why would you do that yourself? There is a guy in the village that does that. You're taking his job away." Yeah, it's a strange world I live in... but hopefully not much longer.

I'm back in the US by September at the latest when my contract expires. :eusa_dance:

Everyone here is shocked when I tell them I'm NOT shipping my V-Max back to the US. It's just not worth it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY BIKE, but I paid about $5,000 for it, and will sell it for about the same. I can find one easily in the US for much less, without the hassle of shipping cost, customs, inspections, and taxes.

For $5K here you should be able to get a clean, low miles late-model Gen 1. Plenty of them (Gen 1's) for sale here in so. FL.

My company is making plans to move me to San Antonio, TX in August. LOTS of good riding weather there!
I've been on Craigslist there already and saw a decent '85.

Exactly the same as in Portugal. Once I took a car for inspection with broken for lights. The only way i got it passed was because i blanked them with tape. If they were showing broken they would have failed me. It's not mandatory to have for lights but if you have them they need to be working. Same for using for lights without fog. 30 bucks fine. All motorcycles need to ride with headlights on regardless it's day or night.

Funny a pastor would say that, since Jesus and the early Apostles all lived a communal existence.

Communism ( or socialism for that matter ) as an Ideology not particularly inherently evil, or anti Liberty.
Now Communist government/ dictatorships on the other hand, they tend to be oppressive and and anti Liberty.

Seriously, though, glad they only taped the, instead of making you/ removing them.
You shouldn't have much of a problem finding a decent Max when you get back to the U S of A .
