I thought my bike was fast

I get what Mike is saying.

Bang for buck the Gen 1 is tough to beat. If you have the money then a gen 2 is nice. But costing almost 3-4 times what a gen 1 cost your paying heftly for it.

On the street how much would the extra power be noticed? Probably not enough for thr majority of people to spend $20,000 on. But the handling and braking thrown in as well, still leaves quite a few other bikes that are more capable for half the cost. The bottom line is the look and the name. That is what your paying for at the end of rhe day.

The Ducati is a better all around machine but looks like a crap to me. The gen 1 vmax is a cool looking machine still but lacks in so many areas that its just not that good as an all around machine.

I think its all going to matter how much money you want to spend and what you are trying to accomplish.

I want a Gen 2 VMax as bad as the next guy, but I refuse to ride one because I know it would just ruin me on any other bike... including my Gen 1.

Thats what kind of happened on my turbo bike. The ZX will be fun, but it won't be thesame crazy rush the turbo was.

Vmax Mike and I joked that the next thing will be jet planes for us to fly lol.

YES it will I went to a demo ride at the Yamaha Dealer ship I rode my Gen1 down to it after waiting several hours to ride the gen2 it was well worth the wait I knew I had found what I had been waiting on.. I found one within a couple weeks and took a 16 hour round trip to get it and never been so happy:worthy:

Well after hearing the max the first time with a kerker pipe in 1990 I knew I had to have one.. now with that being said I have always loved the max and I have put up with being cramped up and having a sore ass no matter how many seats I tried and the gas mileage is really not much different on the gen2 than it is on the Gen1 I ride 2 up alot with my girl at 100-110 mile mark on the gen1 always had to put gas in it on the gen2 100 mile mark the light comes on and im looking for a gas station.
I can now ride 500 miles if I want and (have done it) and feel good after I do it.
I have heard the saying the gen2 dont have the same power feel as the gen1 the gen1 feels more like a bucking horse sure it does lets compare the two..
its like putting a 500 hp 454 bigblock and a 4 speed in a 69 camaro that use to be a 6 cyl car and lets keep the factory Coil springs in it and keep the drum brakes all the way around on it... is fast? sure it is.. will it stop? maybe til the brakes heat up. does it handle good in curves.. NO.. Does the front end jump all over the place and fell like it wants to flip over? sure it does just keep it straight and all is good.. NOW put that same motor and trans in a 2014 camaro with all the latest upgrades to the car and drive it and see which one is more fun.

The Gen 2 may be faster but I can't get past the horrible look of the things. Call me old fashioned but the Gen 1 is just a sleek cruise missile compared to the Scud appearance of it's newer brother. In fairness, I have yet to ride a Gen 2 but I sure as hell aint waiting with baited breath for that that first test. Imho, aesthetics count for a lot and the latest offering from Yamaha is a pig wearing lipstick. Fast ? of course but a pig is a pig and it's just pig ugly.

Chris.

Must be Both pigs here because what I see they look a lot alike
except one is more comfy to ride and is hell of a lot faster

On a factory prepped bike and a professional 130 lb rider alot of bikes went faster than real production units did.

Pretty sure Dale Walker weighs a lot more than 130. :biglaugh:

Now PeeWee Gleason weighed about 130-140.

True But Without The Juice Still Ran A 9.33 With A Baby Dry Shot As Dale Called It It Ran A 9 second

Dale Walker 170 suited, so Dale is around 145-150 ish lbs without gear.

Pee Wee 130 suited, so Pee Wee is around 105-110 lbs without gear.

I just pulled this info off Dale Walkers site, so I can't vouch because I haven't weighed either one of them myself. LOL

Still thats a far cry from most of us weigh in the 200+ range. Drop 50-70 lbs off a bike and that will knock off a 2-3 tenths for sure.

How do you put gas in a Gen2? same as Gen 1? That is the only thing I hate about the Gen 1.

This is turned in to the the same thing the Z forums went thru.

The "purists", all in love with the old 240, 260, 280 & 300's all hating on what is the best Z ever, the 350 now 370, in terms of what they were ALL designed to do, which is handle great and haul ass.

Yeah, Gen II styling may not be for everyone, I don't care for it as much as I looked forward to, would have loived to see a lighter more street fighteresque bike. But there is no refuting it remains VERY true to the original concept of a bad ass V4 "non sport bike/non cruiser" with a lot of modern tech thrown in to boot to solve the issues we all hate about the original.

I've ridden several and its an awesome bike. Yes, expensive compared to a throwaway Busa or ZX14 but .....,.its not and never will be a throw away bike that you see 20 of every time you leave the house.
I can sit in my garage and drink two beers and watch a few of those plastic fantastics cruise by and remain unimpressed,
Yet drive from here to California and see maybe one Vmax, Gen I or Gen II, that draws attention like a naked supermodel.
AND the latter, the Gen II, whip the crap out of those other bikes in 90% of most street confrontations being as they are mostly much less than an 1/8 mile or so.
That's gotta be worth something

I said in another post that is a difference for me. I see no sport bikes and all cruisers hence the reason my Vmax didnt draw that much attention. So I think its geographical location for alot of the "all I ever see" scenarios.

I am not sure what a throw away bike is. But when you can buy a Gen 2 Busa or Gen2 ZX14 for half of what a new Gen 2 Vmax costs you never going to see the Gen 2 Vmax like you will the other two. That to me is the biggest complaint. The bike costs too much and doesn't offer enough for what it costs. I myself can't justify buying something on looks alone at $20,000 new. Not when there are bikes better at half the costs from every manufacturer.
