When I say throw away bike, and I hope that offends no one, I would generally consider it to be something that "doesn't matter" and won't be an important bike years after it was built because...fill in the blank...

Rusty,
No offense taken, I just have never heard that term before in the realms of bikes like this. I don't think the Busa could ever be termed a throw away bike, it was the and still is the fastest production bike ever made. Obviously the "gentlemans agreement" stopped the arms race. But being the first bike to crack 200 mph mark ( or 199 mph or 198 mph depending on which publications you read ), I think isn't a throw away bike in that term and I know you are just throwing them all in a big pot ( 600's 750's 1100's etc ) of sport bikes and I understand that.

Its just like the z forum you mentioned, the GSXR guys are adamant about the 750 GSXR being the first true sport bike. The Honda guys praised the 900 CBR as being the first litre light weight bike to change the industry, on and on and on. It really just boils down to whatever era, manufacturer, style etc that your into that will determine what you/I think is cool and worthy of deeming a collectible or having a place in history as a change the world type bike.

Honestly in my opinion the Gen 1 Vmax was a new type of bike, while it wasnt awesome at one single thing ( other than straight 1/8 mile runs ), it was ok at a lot of things for its era. That can be said for alot of bikes as well. The first true muscle bikes? Kawasaki's Widow Makers 2 stroker 750cc's? Vincent's Black Shadow? It just all boils down to personal likes. I have several bikes and I like all bikes. The Gen 2 doens't float my boat because of the price, drop it down to $12,000 new and I am sure you would see a TON of them on the road. I might even buy one as a second bike to play with. But at $12,000 used for a 2009 model, sorry I just can't do it. But maybe someday....

Right now a Triumph Speed Triple is calling my name for some reason....

If you think they look alike (other than the deliberate design cues) then you need help son. Here's a handy link; http://www.specsavers.com.au/

First of all im not your SON.. Second you own a vt1100 and your going to talk **** about the Gen2 Vmax looking Horrible and only have( delibrate design cues) yeah like the scoops, the seat, gas tank under seat, big V4 motor,Cam covers in the place of the carb covers, clutch, forward drive, stator and waterpump that all can be changed to clear see thru covers like the gen1, gauges on the faux tank cover, the side covers, dual exhaust, swing arm pivot covers, I can go on about it but maybe your the one that needs to go back to the web site www.specsavers.com.au and get yourself some thicker glasses since you was the one that knew Addy of the site.

Right, I understand that. But what I was referencing to is that a new one cost close to $20,000, a new Busa/ZX14 ( I am only using these two as reference because I own one ) costs $11,000 new. Thats almost double. If I can pocket $9,000 and ride a bike I enjoy the looks, comfort and power/speed out of it, then thats what I would do and did. With that $9000 saving, you can ride and go one some pretty bad ass trips. And remember, I don't see these bikes ( Busa and ZX14 ) around me at all. I have seen more Gen 2 Vmax's than I have seen ZX14's. In fact I haven't seen a single ZX14 out by me yet lol. But anyways my point is that we all love bikes one way or another. The Gen 2 Vmax is just too costly and that is one area they lost out on a big part of the market.

$9500 for a 2009 Vmax is awesome. Thats a great price, if I wanted a used bike at that price I would get one and I may still. But for another $1500 I am riding on a new ZX14 or Busa, zero miles, newest generation etc.

My ZX14 2008 cost $4500 total ( $4300 cash and $200 trade on gun work ). Again half the price of the 2009 Vmax used.

Thats all my point is, that the Gen 2 is an awesome bike, but just costly.

Like they always say, you pay to play! :punk:

I paid $16500 in 2008 when I pre-ordered mine. That's around what most people who are willing to play a little hard ball with their dealers are paying. The $20,000 number is really not accurate.

I've never once since I got it thought about how much I paid for it. It's worth every penny.

There is a big difference between expensive and overpriced.

That is a helluva deal. People 'round here try to sell their '01-03 Litre bikes for that price.

That is a great price for a bike with it's capabilities.........but it also says that they do not hold their value.

I would LOVE to have a ZX14, ridden it and a Busa in the same day, both with risers on them, and much preferred the ZX14

I think both are great bikes tho, and didn't mean to imply any less by using the term throw away.

I guess by throw away I kind of consider bikes that are continually surpassed by newer models of the same bike or others and may not or never will have collector value due to becoming obsolete or due to massive production numbers. Or in having looks or styling that is generally regarded to be "the same as all the rest" except to true aficionados.

But who knows, 20-30 years from now when we see these old bikes still on the road because they were "worth saving" we will know.

Just throwing this out there: MSRP on a 2014 ZX14 is over $15K :) closing the gap on the max.

Id be happy with either of em. Or a busa... I don't discriminate. I still prefer the look of a gen1. It looks like a old school hot rod. These new bikes don't. But, I could deal with it once I cracked the throttle.

Damn I am not sure where I saw my price, but $15,299 for a 2014 ZX14.

$17,999 for a Gen 2 Vmax for a 2013 model, I couldn't find a 2014 price, but I didnt look that hard.

ZX14's don't hold their value like a Busa does. Thats one reason I looked at the ZX14, more bike for the money.

I know I got a good deal on mine and I am happy with it.

I found a 2010 M109R I am going to make an offer on and see what happens....

Todd

With a lot of diligence and a little luck you can find some pretty good deals on Gen 2 Vmaxs- I just picked mine up (2010 with 3900 miles) for $11,500 and it's showroom.... :biglaugh: Found it on Cycletrader about 2 hrs after he listed it, and jumped on it!

Jeeeez, you got a thorn up your arse or what pal ? Clearly, you didn't read my post correctly or simply chose to wear blinkers and scoot past the salient parts. I never suggested that the standard Gen 1 was faster, I merely referred to the looks of the Gen 2 being a bloated version of the Gen 1. "Too much to handle" ? Don't make me laugh, I used to ride an ex GP bike in races in the 80's, 90's that would tear a Gen 2 apart. Try 200 +RWHP on a bike weighing in at 375lbs and then tell me wtf I'm talking about and as to coming down to race you ? Are you serious ? My "LITTLE VT 1100" shoves out 150 HP at the rear wheel and runs with the biggest boys out there. You wanna take that to the bar or the parking lot fool ?

Chris.

I work with a guy that got seriously pissed a couple years ago when he, who is a 360 lb. genuine Samoan, claimed his bone stock VTX1100 ran 160 mph and I laughed, we were having dinner andI I think I blew beer out my nose too.

When I realized he was not joking about it I went ahead and really dug in and "Facted" him

Wow.. 150hp to the back wheel on a shadow 1100 ok fine you win im going to sell my gen1 and my gen2 and get me vt1100 and put a pipe and filter and good tune on it hell I should be close to 200hp at the wheel for under $3500 then im coming for you Todd and your zx14:rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200:
