Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

just looks man. it might actually contribute to the wobble since any problems in the tire are exagerated by being farther from the center point.

i had a slight wobble with my last front shinko but i twas cured by a new tire, now its back (but i dismantled my front end in the meantime)

Do you think going to a larger front can make the chances of a wobble higher? do you think your wobble is due to the larger size or is your new one the factory size??

Oh and BTW I got that I was a bit ODC about the poll I apoligize.....

yes i do, since its wider, any offset in weight (which should be offset by balancing, but balancing doesn't balance side to side i don't think) will be out further, causing more issues if there are any.

all personal opinion and nothing to base it on.

new one was the same oversized, and it has basically no visible runout like the old one did.

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

We get into chinese and korean items a lot in our business and what we see is inconsistency. One batch will be amazing and then the next will be utter crap.

That's my issue with some of the stuff you get from there.

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

150mph on a max, on...

- a brazilian H-rated tire (130mph)

or

- a korean V-rated tire (149mph)

I know what I'm running...

and voting for!!! If only I had admin privvies LOL

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

Naughty,

You like the Shinko tires ? have you used them and can you give me some pros and cons... I KNOW EVERYONE WHO IS SOMEONE LIKES THE Metzeler's, I'm just trying to get different opinions.

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

TBH I have not used the Metzelers. I've seen them on many of my friends' bikes.

My bike came with Dunlop Qualifiers - they were **** pieces of soap, especially in the wet.

I've been running Shinkos T230 until the rear got totally worn. I then stupidly fitted a different Dunlop (just 'cos I had a rear wheel with a brand new tire on it lying around) and crashed in my first turn! (ok ok I forgot it was a new tire..)

Shinkos anyday. Those tires are properly sticky. Doing a burnout from a standstill using the front brake is difficult with them, because they wanna grip so much. I also found them pretty good in the wet, although of course here in FL we don't have too many turns.. When my Shinko was almost bald in the middle, I went to ride the Dragon with 82ndCowboy, and finally got to use the sides of the tires (!) and also mostly in the wet. I was well impressed. Sure they are cheap. Sure they are soft (more sticky but worn quicker). Sure there have been stories of differing quality from one batch to another.
But bottom line: they are the only V-Rated (appropriate) tire I wanna buy for my Max. Hate Dunlops. Not impressed with Bridgestones. Metz look good but expensive and speed rating is for cruisers. Are there any more decent choices? I think Maxxis may do the right sizes, but not sure.
For now, I'm gonna buy another rear shinko and have it mounted to my old wheel.

.

Ah, well then, I should have the best of both worlds then. I am running a hot Brazilian Metzler 880 on the front and one of those beautifully built Shinko Tourmaster 230 on the rear. With me in sitting in between them I believe we will get along just fine! :biglaugh:

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

Chris got pissed because I wanted people to vote so I could see a number.. rather than going thru and reading each post and filtering out the ones about a sandwich and other off topic posts.

I wasn't offened and hope he isn't that I explained it.

Will do G! I'm sure everyone probably knows but the way the tires get their speed ratings is by maintaining the rated speed for 2 hours before failing in a test environment. I would feel safe taking a set of H rated tires above their rated speed for as long as I'm going to be at that speed on Redbone. (Probably not longer than a min or two!)

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

Sean posted about this recently somewhere....said he had H rated tires over 200mph on a dyno multiple times.

The rating is at the maximum load(which the Max definitely isn't), for a couple hours. A brief stint to 150 on a 130 rated tire isn't going to cause the tire to explode.

Think I might try the ME880 rear/lasertec front combo.

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

After much debate and decision I ended up ordering the Tourmasters front and back both for $134 shipped.. at that price even if they last 3000 miles I will buy another set....lol

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

Metzeler.
I found for better handling I run one size DOWN from stock on both front and back.
100 front and 140 back.
You dont need the bigger tires.
The bike will turn quicker with the smaller tires.

Re: I wouild like suggestions on Tires

IMO the tires are a part of what makes the MAX look the way it does. I think ( just my opinion ) putting smaller tires on is like putting high heals and a mini skirt on a muscle body builder.... Just doesn't look right. But like I said that is just me and my 2 cents.

Everyone has different tastes
