I do mess with after market and then some! These bikes are old, O.E.M. parts are getting scarce and always were expensive. Caltric after market parts comes to mind and have proven to be a quality, budget parts source, so far my stator, clutch and gaskets when needed
I've used O.E. parts fitted into a cheap ebay chinese $24 pump , removed and re-clocked the inlet-outlet and rode the hell out of my Max till the next curve ball came along for something else.
Its not like the bike is always breaking down, my point is you have to be/get creative, learn what you can and cant cheap out on and know/learn how to wrench on these machines.
So far the only parts I dont take a chance on, from experience are the carb parts and kits.
The pump I'm am running, for a few years now is(Drum roll) a thirty dollar Mr. Gasket 12s, 4-7 P.S.I pump., no issues.
Knock on wood! My Max has been trouble free for quite a while now, but if she wants to give me some **** LOL, then dam right Im headed for my after market trick bag and it wont be down for long.

Thank you! I hear you. Sometimes you definitely have to be creative.
Believe it or not, I was looking into the Caltric. I found it on Amazon and it was around $30 or so. But I went on YouTube and was watching reviews on the fuel pumps and lots of the caltric pumps and other parts had some pretty bad reviews. I have the money so I figured I would go OEM this time. I have also read that the aftermarket performance types like you were talking about like the Mr. gasket ones with the 4-7 psi work well also. If I had to, I would probably go that route before the Caltric. I’m trying to do my best to keep the bike nice and do things the right way. I’m sure like you’re saying with parts getting harder and harder to find as far as the OEM, I’m going to eventually have to get something that’s going to be aftermarket, etc.. Have a great day and thanks again.
