So did you remove the bracket that normally stabilizes the can? Is going with a compression joint going to be enough to keep the muffler from moving around and not coming loose?
I cut off the bracket that was attached to the muffler. The fitting is extremely tight. The coupler was hammered on using a rubber mallet. No way is it coming off without cutting it off.
I made the mistake of putting it on at the shop that did the expansion on the coupler. When I got home, I couldn't get it to budge. So, after a couple of hours, instead of screwing with it and possibly damaging it, I masked off the muffler and painted the coupler black, using VHT's 2000 deg. high heat paint.
Its lighter than the midpipe and the carbon fiber kerker can that it replaced, I didn't have a bracket on it either, but I might drill and tap the plate that was left, on the IXIL, after cutting off the mounting bracket and fab up a bracket to give a nice and finished look, instead of having an empty hole where something should have been mounted.
