I got down and looked the engine over trying to find any clues to explain why my 89 feels so much faster than my 94. Besides 60 to 70 more pounds of compression in the cylinders (220-230 lbs)...

Found numbers on both engines, scribed in with a vibrating marker.:ummm: Near cylinder 1 and cylinder 4, Carb side..

The 94 rear cylinders are marked with 3324. Front cylinders 33-108....

The 89 rear cylinders are marked with 80120. Front cylinders have a military Z then 0130 or Z0130 total.

What do these numbers actually tell me, Anything????

Where and how did PCW mark modded engines...

Thanx for any info....

Dunno about your other questions, but as to why one motor is better than the other, I think you hit the nail on the head.
"Besides 60 to 70 more pounds of compression " will do it!

thats a lot of compression ar the heads milled ? does it run on 87? must have great throttle response

+2 on the compression, for the difference in performance, and the strength of the '89's power. I wouldn't expect over 200psi, that sounds like a built motor. Must run well!

It runs very well but makes marbles in a can sounds on lower octanes. With 90 - 93 octane and octane booster it's quieter. Had it up to an indicated 140 once on the ride last weekend and it was still pulling pretty strong. My 94 will get there but it's struggling by then..

I know I need to upgrade my brakes before I do any more of these runs. I can still see the guard rail coming up way too fast at the end of one straight. Horseshoes, Hand Grenades and Atomic Bombs it was close.... I only hit 125 on that run.

I don't want to take the motor apart to find an answer, guess I'll just accept it as is and enjoy it when the road is clear...

One PO did some mods to this bike, some were done right and some were way off. I believe I've gotten rid of most of the Mickey Rigged work they did.

Thanx for the thoughts...

Definitely keep the high octane in it... you don't want to detonate that thing into oblivion! If you're still pulling hard at an honest 140, you've probably got a pretty strong motor there. I can make the climb to the top of 4th real quick, but then it starts slow up in the 130+ bracket. Of course, my massive figure doesn't do much of a tuck to get out of the wind...

dave, could you get a scope in the spark plug holes and when you had the oil pan dropped did you see any pics of the crank/rods?

Time is my enemy right now Kyle. I'm working on my boat and Dodge SS/T getting them into as perfect of condition as I can. I've got to sell some of these vehicles and get my 5.0 Explorer back on the road too. I do want to do the dyno but it may have to wait a while. With my Mom in the nursing home now, Mary has a 2-1/2 year list of Honey Do's for me to catch up on..

I'm on overload and It'll probably cut down on my time here too. I'm waiting on breakfast or I wouldn't be on the forum now...

Take Care and I'll keep in touch best I can...

Thanks for the assistance, thoughts and replies.

Garrett: I didn't think it was anything special at the time I did the Kawi O-Ring Fix. I did think that the plumbing had been updated as the O-Ring was solidly held in place. When I put the Kawi O-Ring on it was difficult to seat again so I only used the best rubber bumper I had to hold it up. It wasn't till I got past most of the problems and got the carbs set up that I began wondering why it felt different. :confused2:BTW, while we were on the ride last Sunday, Upside Down Shocks and all, the bike handles corners faster and more stable than any bike I've owned. This is # 37 if I'm right, could be + or - one.. :ummm:

if u get a scope maybe you could put it up through the oil level sensor hole?
