lankee, do you have your own bike shop?

Hi Dave.
I have a place where I work on bikes. If you asking if I am a liscensed motorcycle shop owner the answer would be no. If I was married and had a second income I would seriously think about it.

o.k. i got your attention lets see see some pics of your favorite pet. dave

we try and keep these threads organized and stay on topic, if not it would be one big cluster *** as most other forums. I will admit we do get off topic at times but the moderators work hard here to keep it organized.. Its great idea you have, why dont you start a new top "Post your Pet / Pets"

I'm a fleet mechanic for a large telecommunication company ( can you hear me now ? ). I love my job , but 4 of our fleet of 35 just got laid off Friday, so it's kind of scary right now. I think there's more down-sizing in the future - just have to ride the storm out...

You never told us you quit your old job. When did you quit your warehouse job of taking delivieres in the rear:ummm:

High School Metal shop teacher. You have to love the job or it will drive you crazy. Can't beat having all the equipement at my disposal. Kids keep you young but many of the staff is far to liberal for me but lots of good folk also.

BTW: did I say this job can drive you crazy????????????????????????

Up till January of this year I was an "Underwing Mechanic - Fuselage" which is basically aircraft sheet metal mechanic and also "Precision Bench Assembler" which is about like it sounds (except airplane parts and not benches - lol).

In January they moved me to "Production Operations Specialist" which is essentially support for the sholp mechanics. I trouble shoot problems for the mechanics. Anything from finding out why **** won't fit to determining what caused certain defects and what can be done to prevent them in the future. I also help determine proper assembly processes by using experience and blue print assembly reading skills.

Not to mention that I still run the side business keeping you guys supplied with custom parts, engine repair - building, chrome, seats, etc... - basically anything to do with the Vmax (and other bikes). I even get to play with the musclecars on occassion.

The day job was getting to be a real pain (in the shoulders, hands, back, and ass!) but now i'm on easy street. This downturn has everyone worried (including me) as it usually means layoffs. Currently we are on reduced work weeks with only 3 day work weeks right now (24 hours a week). That was due to the union strike at Boeing who is our main customer. Looks like we will be on reduced weeks until March (maybe sooner).

I am the team lead for a technical support team at a small software company. I like it cause we get to mess around alot(read forums) while working. It is a great place. We are kinda lucky in that our product tracks Cobra Benefits so as more people get fired, more admistrators need our software. Well they actually always need it but the due to its nature we aren't too worried about the slowdown.

Really Sean? I thought u did the vmax/shop thing full time. Your reputation and work would have suggested so....

It is almost a full time side job but the cycle business is too peaky. Working in the aircraft precision shop and having a gear head for a dad was pretty good to get me into this. Having a decent income helped pay for the stuff I broke which can be a hard learning experience. From there it was try to make parts live so not to have to pay for it twice (which doesn't always work).

The three day weeks lately have at least given me time to get closer to caught up. I currently have a big project with a bike from Louisiana. It is going to be bad ass!

I just finished his engine today. We went with a 1300 since he wanted reliability but more power then stock. We have a few extra things we did to the block that should help it survive some harsh use. I ended up having to make a couple of valve shims to get him into spec.

I'll be starting into the chassis late this week too.

You're welcome to have a stab at my occupation =P

Radiation Protection Supervisor at a Nuclear Waste processing/storage site. Just to answer the question up front.... No nothing glows LOL.

I'm a fleet mechanic for the Forestry Department. I've got two shops and I'm the only mech in the district so I stay pretty busy. (28 firetrucks, 2 dozers, three lowboys and scads of pickups and sedans) During the summer I also am on a fire team as a Logistics Section Chief. We put out forest fires. It's very challenging but also very rewarding. Haven't had a vacation during the summer in 17 years. You get used to camping under a tarp. Really! Currently rebuilding my Max for this spring.

Over 12 years as a Facility Maintenance Employee for Con-way Truckload (formally CFI) headquarters. I jump between 5 buildings that range from 240,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft on a 160 acre complex.

I either repair, supervise or maintain all the electrical, lighting, HVAC systems, DDC controls, fire suppression systems, security system, elevators, gate controllers just to name a few. Burned out, but it pays the bills.
