43 mpg is amazing... I get like 30-35 easy or not. Did you drop a venture drive on that bike or something?

Agree with swapping the coil/wire and seeing if it follows that. Changing just the plug isn't really enough to rule out spark being your issue.

Im pretty sure its a stock diff. the rpms seem to line up with what others have said.Though i do have a slightly smaller front tire..giving the speedo the "illusion" of going more miles than I really am..anyway..and I DO baby it...for now.

Back to my trouble.. I wasnt ruling out spark in general..I said that I switched the plugs with one that was firing good (the opposite rear), and the BAD cylinder is still running colder than the rest. (so I ruled out a bad spark PLUG) Perhaps that cylinder is not getting good enough spark.

I'll see if I can mess wit the coils tonite..maybe that'll tell me suttin.

Thanks fellas

Update:

so..switched the coils..no change..then switched the wires..no change.
Then I pulled plug from bad cyl again..expecting to find the oily fowled plug i saw the first time.
Well guess what?..dry as a friggin bone!!
well you know what that means.. see my theory is that if i was runnin for a few minutes.."not firing off all that fuel bein injected into the cyl, she be wet as my girls..hoo hoo.
THATS RIGHT.. unless there was NO FUEL even going into that cyl.

so..what did I do next you ask? took off the cover to expose the carbs..fired her up..and squirted some starter fluid into the carby in question, and ..you guessed it, she.started firing and runnin like the proverbial "gangbusters".

anyhoo..whomever mentioned yesterday bout syncin carbs.was.really onto suttin...

Now..onto the carburator thread to see why.the.flip that baby aint gettin the fuel it should.

thanks..and stay tuned..maybe in a different thread tho,as this one seems to have run its course.

;)

Yup,
If it's not well synched very hard to get to run on all cylinders at idle.

As a trouble shooting procedure I use a thermal gun on the pipes to verify cylinder operation;

An an old fashioned inductive clamp timing lite on each cylinder to see if the coils are firing is really handy too. You're not "timing" anything, just observing the lite to verify it's firing the coil.

Another trouble shooting tip to verify its a "fuel at idle problem" is, after you verify the coil is firing on your cold cyliinder with the timing lite, is too keep a thermal gun on the cold pipe and start cranking the idle higher and higher till you see it start to heat up, and that point you can pretty well gaurantee it's a synch or pilot jet problem.

If the pipe is cold and the coil is firing at normal idle, and starts firing as you creep the throttle open, then you know it's gotta be lack of fuel either from poor synch or a carb problem.

My guess is that if it only takes a very slight increase in throttle to get it to fire then it's synch, if it takes even more throttle then its a pilot circuit issue since it's gotta get off the pilot circuit to start firing.

Thanks rusty..
yea..its definately a.carb issue. It seems like its firing once im into higher revs..as the pipe does finally get warmer.
I did the pea shooter .(.as best i cld)..no change.
somethings wrong with that one carb..i can turn the screw all the way in/out with no change to the RPM at all.
I do get an increase if i shoot some starting fluid down that carb though..so I do know that im gettin spark.

So..Ive taken the carb apart ,only as far as my fear allows (which isnt far..just the cover off and slide out) cleaned/blew every orfice I cld see/feel/touch / taste .. with no improvement (or even change for that.matter)

any help is most welcome.

You might remove the a/f screw and make sure the o ring isn't smushed sideways and blocking the hole. Usually takes a pick tool to get it out.

Both pilot air jet's are clear right?

And lastly the pilot fuel jet inside the jet block has incredibly small easy to plug hole in it. Its a 37.5
It will not idle if this is plugged
