hey I was out in ohio this past summer for Mid ohio vintage motorcycle days. I was hangin' with some buddies of mine in the ZL- owners association. dont know if you guys know much about the kawasaki ZL's but they are the kawi hot rods...made from 85-87...

anyways the zl group gets a significant turn out at that event, but I dont recall seeing any vmax's there anywhere.... was wondering if there is a vmax turn out at the mid ohio VMD ??? any of you guys show up there???

the zl-oa group had about 12 bikes head out to the dragstrip on the sunday following the event and it was a great time form all. I was without a bike because I flew in and got camera man duty..oh well.. still had a blast. bikes ran 1/4 mile times from 11.5's to around 12 seconds. not sure where a stock vmax performs.... Im thinking relitively close to that range..
basically the ZL eliminators owned the track with only the exception of one guy on a zrx....

I will probably be at MO-vmd again this year comming up and if there is a vmax group there I would like to get hooked up with them as well.

I was aslo thinking that because of the similar high performance nature of these two bikes and riders groups that some friendly interaction and competition might be something that both groups could enjoy. definately would like to see more bikes at the drag strip next year

here are a couple of pics of my zl1000, my '89 vmax ( now elimax's) and a link to the zl-oa MO-vmd pics for you guys to have a look at...

post up if you think it would be fun to get hooked up with a similar breed of bikes and riders. Im thinking a friendly association between the two groups would enhance both and add to the fun factor.

I wasn't at the event, but I had an 85 zl 900 for twelve years. I bought it new off the showroom floor. It was a great bike. I never did a thing to it, but the basics, tires, brakes etc. I never had it at the track. I always wondered what kind of times it would run. Mine was black.

they run about a 12.0 stock with average joe rider... back in the day dale walker could pull low 11's .... gotta feelin that was not in the same condition that you would get off the show room floor though...

I have had 3 zl9's and two zl1000's.... built all three 9's and one of the zl1000's myslef. I wish I was as familiar with the mechanics of a vmax as I am with the ZL's right now ! I'm dying to get this '85 max fired up !!!

I don't race mine, but I was at mid-Ohio a few years ago on the Max. Its only about an hour drive for me, but I always have something else going on during the vintage days and never seem able to make it. There are always alot of good people there at the meet, and a good friend of mine goes faithfully every year.

a good friend of mine just bought an 85 ZL1000 a few months ago. i havent seen it yet but he says its pretty nice. we will be riding together this summer so i am sure we will get on it and he will watch me walk away....lol.
