I'm guessing you're referring to the "Gator" movie where he's let out of jail to bust a moonshiner while masquerading as a 'runner' himself. Burt used Ned Beatty in that as the bad sheriff. There were some great driving scenes in that. The crooked sheriff was bad, bad, bad!

Quotes:
From White Lightning (1973)
Gator McKlusky: Only two things in the world I'm scared of
Sheriff Connors: Only scared of two things, what's that?
Gator McKlusky: Women and the police.

I just checked on imdb and the movie I'm thinking of is "White Lightning." Burt did another 'Gator McCluskey' movie earlier, it was "Gator." Interestingly, Burt was born in Lansing MI, but is best known for his 'good-ole-boy' Southern personality.

I remember Burts' 429 Police Interceptor/Cobra Jet engine in his 1971 Ford Galaxie 500. That car would fly.

Ned Beatty was the sheriff that drowned his his little brother Donnie throwing him out of the fishing boat with lead boots and handcuffs. See Burt let Jan Michael Vincent drive the nitrous oxide Trans Am in Hooper.

White Lighting IIRC, that car also had a manual in the movie, decades ago but its still clear in my head. FoMoCo never offered these with MT but maybe some specially prepared persuit cars had them? Mybe just the movie car? Nothing better than a 70s car chase flick!

That's funny because I remember Burt shifting from the floor but every time he stopped there was a column shifter on the steering wheel in park.

White Lightning was done first and then Gator a few years later, Gator starred Jerry Reed as the bad guy, ol'e Burt and Jerry went on to fame in the Smokey and the Bandit flick, another campy movie I like is High Balling with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.........................Tom.

WL 1973
Gator '76

Burt liked to use his friends, just like Clint Eastwood. Share the wealth. The bank robber in Dirty Harry: "go ahead make my day" was a cop in later Dirty Harry movies. He got killed in the Sondra Locke as a carousel refurbishing artist, Dirty Harry movie.

I was young when Smokey and the Bandit came out, Hooper and the others, it was like **** to my young mind. There were many noteworthy non-Bert movies. I watched Dukes of Hazard like it was gospel, Vanishing Point, mad Max & Road Warrior which were great for their inclusion of bikes. Oh, Gone in 60 seconds ( the good one, not the newer one). Honorable mention to Ronin and the first two transporter movies but they lack that traditional deep south real car shine running feel.
I would be embarassed to say how many hours I spent playing Interstate 76 on PC.

Have you guys noticed that some of these movie cars have 27 forward gears with all the upshifting?

1964 Impala SS......

Mine was a 63 Impala.

Traded a guitar and amp for it.

Course I was only 15 (no license), my mother wouldn't let me keep it, so I took off and headed to florida( from CT).
Ended up sleeping overnight in a dead end in NY somewhere. in the morning I was woken up by the cops, who towed the car, my Mother was not excited to have to come pick me up from the police station near Mamaroneck NY.

She mailed them the title, and they crushed it (supposedly).

:bang head:

True story.
I miss that car. and my mother actually.

I had to sell my 64 because I got in a bit of trouble. My father was a typical no ******** guy. I always thought he could have played Achy Bunker...lol. Miss him now though. A older guy hung with me, like my best Bud to get the car. I never herd from the ******** again after he got my car. A people lesson for sure.

My father was exactly like Archie Bunker and still is. Imagine a US Federal Marshal like him with a gun and an attitude.:ummm:
