Thanks for all the replies. I've been searching through this forum for awhile now and found it really informative and interesting. I went through the frequently asked questions thread and found out a lot of good info there.

As for the fuel tanks, I will probably just ride without the expensive "faux tank" and just use Jerry cans for now. I could always put my luggage in dad's bike and use my saddle bags for fuel.

Also what websites/vendors do most people buy off of? I know of Exactrep and Musclebikes. Also where can I find nice saddlebags? I just want something plain and discrete... not like my uncle's H-D with chrome studs along the saddlebags.

Thanks again!

They were so nice ones on ebay i believe.

What size of saddlebags typically fit the Vmax best? I was looking at the Tourmaster Cruiser III Slants but I don't know which size would fit the best. I want it around this size.

I'm a fan of Nelson-Rigg luggage. Good prices and best warranty in the business.

Cor Tech and Marsee make good bags. Is FatMax still around? And doesn't Tourmaster make bags too? Any of those should be good.

What size in those bags? I have absolutely no experience in saddlebags. Really all I need is for the saddle bag to hold a 1.5 gallon Jerrycan.

On the 07 you are looking at, did the guy smoke the back tire? Check under the fender for rubber. What type of oil did he use? How did he store the bike, what procedures? Did he power wash it or by hand? Ride in the rain often? Is the bike bone stock? Did he race it?

That is alot of money he is asking so be sure of those things. Mine has never been abused in any way, unless you call occasional power rollons abuse, and it has given me no problems in almost 22,000 miles now, on an 05 bought new.

Best to you,
O

..The bike I am looking at is a black 2007 Vmax with 6000 KMs on it. When looking at Vmax's is there anything to look out for?...

Here, read this post that I quoted from the faq section
"I'm thinking about buying a V Max, what are some of the things I should look for in a used one?"

Buying a motorcycle isn't any different than buying any other vehicle, look for overall condition, obvious things like smoking, knocking, etc. and especially in these areas,

-check underneath the footpegs for scrapes which would suggest that portion of the bike has come in contact with the road, for whatever reason.

-Look at the bottoms of the headers....for the same reason.

-Check inside the rear fender for shredded rubber (which would indicate burnouts)

-Check around the battery for any indication of spilled acid (indicating the bike has been on it's side)

-Look at the tips of the mirrors and handlebar ends for scrapes

-Take the bike for a test ride accellerating hard through 2nd gear....V Max's are nortorious for a 2nd gear problem.....popping out of 2nd under accel is a symptom of this.

-Also during the test ride let the bike decellerate from 50mph with a light hold on the bars.....you are looking for a shaking at around 35mph? (called a 'low speed wobble' and could indicate front end issues)

Thanks for answering my questions. I will be sure to check out some of the things you mentioned. Unfortunately the bike is at a dealership and I cannot talk to the original owner. When you mean store the bike are you talking about putting it away for winter? As for tires and rubber inside of the fender, I checked for that. It is still the stock tire and has ton of tread left...

Thanks again!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Nice to see some Canadian guys on here too.

What would be a realistic range of a Vmax? My dad can ride for around 4-5 hrs without a break. I certainly can't but the only reason I am looking into fuel auxiliary tanks and what not is the distance between gas stations in Canada. My dad and I are planning a trip across Canada and in the prairies there are very few gas stations (Saskatchewan haha) and messing around with jerry cans is kind of a pain.
Welcome. As far as carrying extra gas, check out www.tourtank.com
Seem to be very well made, and reasonably priced.
I've been across Canada twice on a Max. Only had to do the jerry can thing when north of 60. A good GPS unit, loaded with up to date maps, is your best friend on a long trip.
Unless you have a tank like the above, you have to ride with patient companions. The small OEM tank on the Max will dictate the frequency and location of the stops.
Cheers!

So just an update guys and girls, I bought the Vmax! Bought it for 6500$.

Now it is time to look at mods and primarily saddlebags.

Thanks again for all the tips to make sure everything is running correctly.

Miles, the tourtank link was a fizzle for me. Any updates?

back in my younger days....for reasons i wont discuss:biglaugh:....i was hitch hiking in CA in the new brunswick province. it was very easy to get a lift and several folks took me to thier house and fed me. one nice lady even gave me a huge bag of food to take with me. very nice folks the Canadians.

course that was back in the 80"s idk what they are like now:rofl_200:

Picking up the bike tomorrow. Just finished up all the registration and insurance. Getting pretty excited to take her home.

Anyways, just a few more questions for you guys.

1. Is there any saddlebags that are specifically made for the Vmax? I know there are bags that are made to fit H-Ds but I haven't seen any for Vmaxs.

2. What motorcycle cover do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

that cycle shell is farkin saweeeeeettt!!!!!!:punk: how much is that Fire-Medic?

I have a Guardian by Dowco which is made w/good material & has held-up well. It has flannel in the front to protect a windshield, and strong elastic around the perimeter. It is vented & has an understrap to go under the bike to help secure the cover.

I also have one of these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcxr1CWWe9w which I use for a mower but fits a bike well.

Here is another design:
http://www.aah-shelters.com/cycleshelter-protective-motorcycle-enclosure.html

Do you remember which model? They range from 106$ to 40$.

Thanks for the input! Greatly appreciated:worthy:
