Well . . . After 20 or so years I finally got my own Max a low milage (3000 km) 04 Model. I've already changed out a few items (Foot pegs, turn signals & brake lamp) and added the flyscreen. Pretty amazing what a few touchs can do to Max, already it looks like a much more modern machine. Too bad Yamaha didn't do this themselves. Got a bunch of upgrades purchased and ready to install (HUGE thanks to the V-Max community).

Would I buy a new Max, I'll reserve my judgement till I seen one in the flesh but for right now it doesn't do for me what the current model does.

Besides, I'm pretty sure the new model won't need too much fiddling but that's not the point . . . or is it?

I certainly hope Yamaha has figured out how to make nice looking mirrors.

The new MAx does look mean as right now put put some standard Yamaha cruiser mirrors on it and it just ruins it.

I love the look of the current Max. Yes it is a little outdated, but I love that cruiser bike on steriods. I think if they kept the same general look of the current Max but modernized it by adding a 18" 200 back tire, beefier R1 like front forks (chrome or black), R1 brakes (chrome), quad chrome exaust (the exaust that is in that picture is almost as stupid looking as the SBusa), had a seat that still had the cool gas latch but you could take the bake seat off if you wanted, I still love the round headlight (classic cruiser) but they need some HID in there, should have close to 200 HP (150 crank HP or 120WPH in 1985 due to inflation:rofl_200: should translate into 230 crank HP or 200WHP in 2008), V-boost should kick in at 4000 from the factory, and a You-da-**** T-shirt included with purchase  .

I would remortage my house for the bike just described, but I don't believe the one in the pictures truely represents the V-Max mystique. What I mean by that is that the traditional V-Max is a fearful straight line *******, who cares if it can't carve through the mountains like a GSXR1000, it was never intended to (that's why Yamaha has the R1). Yes I would like it to handle a little better but that is not what a V-Max is, if that's what you want get a Speed Triple or Kawi 1000 or 919, but a v-max shouldn't look like a naked bike it should look like a cruiser. I think the new Max is trying to be a naked bike and I think that is ****, the V-max is in a league of its own (power crusier) and the new one should run a 8.9 sec 1/4 mile and maybe corner a little better. I'm telling you if we lose the cruiser bike styling the max will fade into the sea of other plastic almost-sportsbikes.

One more thing, I would wipe my *** with the tail section of the new v-max if I could.:clapping:

I beg to differ--there's no reason why a muscle cruiser shouldn't have good suspension and tires to back up its power. The Vmax wasn't intended to be a backroad bomber, but why shouldn't it be able to keep up with a relatively quick group ride on the twisties?

I do have more sporting bikes in my garage to pick from, but if my buddies decide to head into the country, I don't want to a) have to go home and trade bikes or b) be the back marker that they're all waiting for to catch up. Fortunately, I've done enough to my Vmax that it will hang pretty well with a group of sportbikes who aren't TRYING to lose me! But there's still room for improvement, and those improvements are exactly what will get me to buy a new Vmax.
