I just want a kit.

Ha, Ha!
It's about making use of the power.
Lets say it's 2500lbs @ 800hp that's 3.13:1 power to weight.
Not many street cars have ever achieved these numbers.
The automatic makes it drivable and a little more civil on the street.
Tipronic would be nice, but it was '67!
Automatics offer a smoother power delivery....so your tires can survive and you break less parts.
A VMax is 600lbs @ 140hp that's 4.29:1
I'd tell him, "it ain't a sports car without a stick".......I just can't catch him!
No way I would question anything he has done.
