So, after deploying for 8 months and thinking about tearing down my vMax I have finally started. I will post numerous threads as I go through the bike from tire to tire and resurrect this beast. I bought my 2001 vMax from someone on Guam for $500. It wasn't running at the time and the owner did not have the money to fix it so it sat for 10 months. I got it home, figured out it was a carb problem then deployed. Now it is time to get this max running. Any ideas and suggestions as I proceed ate welcomed. Here are the first few pics...

I'm currently here on island with the bombers. If you need any help with the restoration I'd love to lend a hand ( our just hang out with a fellow Maxer). I hope to hear back from you. Seeing an '01 in that condition makes me sad since that's the model I have.

That is wild that you are deployed here. I am the first sgt for RED HORSE and just returned from an 8 monther so I'm still on my r&r and will take a few weeks after that. What is your name and I will email you and get a phone number from you so we can meet and maybe you can stop by and see my project. I live on base so trans will be easy.

Step 2, new gas tank installed thanks to the great deal from vmax2extreme, much better looking and no rust on the inside. Next will be the rear tire reinstall with new brakes and progressive 440's I got for Seam Morley at one hell of a deal. Pics will follow

Final step and tuning. So after some trouble with the carb setup and the bike running rough, I decided to get rid of the cobra slip ons and go with the supertrapp. After some hunting around I finally found some got them installed and all my problems went away. The bike runs great and holy shit it pulls hard. I'm 40 years old and my last decade of bikes included a Vulcan nomad 1500 and a Honda shadow. It was 2001 since I owned a sport bike and now I have the best of both worlds. I recently had a visit from the mod monkey (yes he flew all the way over to Guam to visit me) and I installed the CBR taillight, what a difference. Now I'm scouring the forum looking for my next mod. I believe the front lights need to be looked at next, maybe a Morley's custom seat is in order then a notched and braced swing arm so I can be ready for some new wheels later. Last thing is I hate being on Guam with my max as the highest posted speed limit on the entire Island is 45mph. The roads have coral in them so when it rains its like black ice, slick as snot so a few empty roads and the one drag strip is all I have to open her up on....that sucks.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1372109185.798902.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1372109206.474697.jpg

Looking good, I'd look into some engine guards if I was you. Just in case it gets a little squirmy on those roads. Sean has a vrod type light that looks good on em too.

Here is a way to lose your front turn signal stalks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-HALOGEN-M...Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d09973c5a&vxp=mtr

and a bucket to put it in: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item257ed02648&vxp=mtr

I have one of these EMGO buckets I put on my 'Max w/a (gasp!) Harley reflector headlamp and lemme tell you, it lights up the road so-much better than the anemic 5-3/4" stocker, I no-longer feel like I am outdriving my headlight by 70 mph. I wish I had done it sooner!

then you need some 'ears' to mount it. I recommend rubber insulated double bolt ones for best clamping. I got some off ebay & paid about $60 delivered. Here is an older shot of my install, from the side. I was going to install an H4 bulb in either 5000 or 6000 from ddmtuning but the stock bulb is working well. Not sure how the pic inverted, sorry! If a mod wants to do it for me, thank-you.
