shifter alignment

I was cleaning the bike when I noticed the shift lever was missing the hold down bolt. I have a bolt to replace it. My question, is there an alignment mark on the shift lever that I align with on the shaft. I do see a dot on the shaft. Also does anyone have a picture of where the shaft should be positioned when/if aligned. I suspect the lever is bent. the bike has fallen out of third gear just recently after a couple of red line runs. I think the shift lever may have moved. It was pretty loose. :ummm:

No marks just put it where it looks close & adjust it to your foot from there.

The lever does not have a mark, but the dimple on the end of the shift shaft aligns with the gap in the splined attaching bracket (that has linkage going to the actual lever).

Thanks for the replies I will be looking at it as soon as I can.

I found that my preference is to have the shift lever adjusted down from level about 1/2" to 3/4".
