Hello,
I just purchased the sissi bar for my vmax. The person who sell it said that it is chromed, not polished aluminium and magnet catch it a little. I have never seen the steel frame in sissi bar. Is it possible that it is made from steel or somebody chromed the aluminium?
The chrome is not perfect so it is necessary to renovate it. I did not get it yet but I am thinking what to do with the frame. Thanks in advance for feedback if somebody has the chromed sissi.

If you take it to a chrome shop, they do the reverse-process, which will remove the chrome. Chrome, nickel, copper to return to the aluminum factory finish, Polish/paint to your desire. I have done the reverse-chrome removal on scoops which turned out OK.

Wow, I've never heard of this. Is it expensive?

The 84-86 Honda V65's all have peeling chrome wheels and owners lament how to make them better.

Thanks for info. I was not aware before that aluminium can be chromed. I would like to keep surface as natural aluminium so if it is feasible to do reverse like you wrote I will do it, later polish aluminium and will paint it with clear lack. I hope the al will looks like the other Yamaha parts.

You need to be sure that the shop leaves it in the solution long enough to make the process work. If they don't give it enough time, the material removal will be insufficient and you will not be happy with the uneven results.

Once the de-plating by electrolysis is done, you can polish it with some Simichrome or other metal polish, and wax it to delay the inevitable oxidation, which can only be delayed and removed with periodic re-polishing.

I've posted before about a good paint for aluminum, Alumiblast by Martin Seymour. I use it and I like it. It's formulated for aluminum.

Here's a scoop I sanded and painted with Alumiblast.

The sissi bar came. The corrosion of alu rack started to unstick the chrome. I decydent to try with soda Blasting. The guy with those equipment said that the chrome can me remove easily and he did it already so we will see. After chrome will be removed the plan is to polish and then paint with transparent lack to protect in the same way that was done with original. Your alu paint looks really good. Is it abrasion resistant?IMG_9056.jpeg

The frame is after Glass Blasting. The electrochemical chrome elimination was not available in my location. But the chrome was remove completly so now the aluminium polishing has to be done. Now it looks not very attractive.

I am impressed the chrome was removed by bead blasting. I suspect bead blasting textured the aluminum? Soda blasting is good for cleaning things you don't want being given the bead blasting. I use soda blasting on carburetor bodies and they come out looking great. I use it inside the float bowls too if they have hardened deposits.
