wow!! never saw those before......as long as it filters as good as a paper filter why not?? woudnt take long to pay for itself:punk:

nice bling item!!!:clapping:

i've seen these. they look cool. but i feel like cleaning the whole thing out everytime u do the oil would be a pain. i'm ok sticking with my K&N paper.

I have no scientific basis on this but I just don't like the idea of a reusable filter. For some reason I can't quit thinking that there is going to be stuff that makes it thru one of those filters that would not make it thru a paper filter. No reason why but thats what I think.

I'm the same way with fuel filters. I know alot of guys here like those clear, reusable fuel filters with the mesh screen. I have the same opinion. I would think rust or dirt would be more likely to make its way thru the mesh one that a OEM or any equivalent paper one. Once again, I have no scientifice proof. Just kind of the way I feel about it for no apparant reason:confused2:

But, then I go and use cheap oil and antifreeze.

They did this years ago about quality filters and the best filter for your money i think WIX . JIM

Sorry to get off topic from the SS, reusable filters but I just noticed that if you do a tag search on here for "oil filter" there are no threads with that tag. Maybe this could be the one. And if it is, it should have this info. This info was posted on the Vmax Outlaw site.

ya know strangely enough i feel the same way. but use expensive antifreeze. haha. just feels right to do it that way.:ummm:

I would like to point out that w Napa 1356 filter WILL NOT fit the V Max. Diameter and thread size are the same, but it is not concave enough to accept the mounting on the Max.

I had the same problem withe the WIX filter, wouldn't snug up.

Well, to get back on topic, from what I have been reading thus far is that the problem with the SS filters is that they will only capture particles as small as what they are stating. Thus a SS filter designed to capture 30 micron particles would not capture something that is 29 micron. The arguement is that a paper filter can; however, the paper filter may or may not catch it the first time around because of the imperfections in the paper. It may not catch it the 2nd or 3rd time either. It is also those same imperfections that could allow it not to catch a 300 micron particle on the 1st pass, as well. So it appears that the SS filters are working "the average" vs pushing "the best possible under optimal conditions" standpoint.

The other item I've read up on is what happens under cold stating. When the oil is cold, the paper filter will not let it pass through. Under such conditions, the filter will use a bypass valve and let unfiltered oil circulate through the engine until it it is warm enough to pass through the filter. Not really a pleasent thought considering that this is usually the harshest conditions for an engine and why we push warming up the engine before putting it under real use. With the SS filter, it will let the oil pass while cold and filter it upon start up. Alot nicer for piece of mind, IMHO.

Thoughts???

For $100 I really don't see an advantage to straying from the tried and true paper filters. Besides an oil filter is probably not something that you want to 'experiment' with.

I'm pretty sure the same thing was said with K&N air filters way back when...now look at where we are ;)

Even at $100, I'd end up making up the cost when you factor in the cost of ~$6 a filter and changing your oil every 3k miles....that's only about 50k miles..

To the motor experts out there....do you think 35 micron is suffcient filtering when combined with a magnet to catch metallic particles, regardless of size?
