Starting issue

Got the seat off, hooked up the jumper... cranked over and fired up immediately.
Guess I need a better battery. Will be ordering a new one at the beginning of the month.

Even the bigger UB12220 battery will fit?

I'd have to say that IMHO, the 18 Ah UB12180 I'm currently using is every bit as good as the 16 Ah PC680 and is 1/3 the price (currently $35.75).
The only thing the PC680 has going for it over the UB12180 is the extremely high initial Warm Cranking amps and it's only 16 Ah rated vs 18 or 20 on the UB's.
The PC680's CCA is actually only 170 vs 283 CCA for the UB12180 and 420 CCA for the 20 Ah UB12220.

I have the Odyssey and all I can say is it was on the bike when I bought it in 2007 and is still great. That is over 6 years of my ownership and I have no idea when the PO installed it. The bike has sit for as long as 6 months without starting with no problems. One of my friends has had one in his Max for over 7 years.

All I'm saying is that the UB12180 is just as good and costs 1/3 as much.
I've had this UB12180 for over 6 years now and have never actually had to use my trickle charger on it.
I plug it in every few weeks over the winter just to be safe, but it always shows as fully charged.
So why spend an extra $80 or so when you don't have to.

I wonder why Odyssey lists lower numbers on their site ???
Maybe yours was old stock or possibly they have inaccurate info on their site.

Either way the PC680 has always been a good choice for a Vmax as are the UB12180 and UB1220.

If they modified it, that may change its excellent service. Hope they give you an honest answer. May have to try another brand if they are no longer as good. Why do companies feel the need to change an excellent product? Usually it is for the worse....

I have read mixed reviews of those Duralast batteries from Autozone.
Many people stated that they don't last very long.
I'd Google around and see what people are currently saying about them before buying one.

Shopping around, turns out the only battery I am getting around here is a stock replacement.

Well, a new stock replacement IS STILL a hell of a improvement over the old one. Starts immediately, and idles smooth as glass now, with improved response off idle.

I'm content for now.

Yeah the Stock battery is better than a Dead Battery but it will only last 2.5-3 years from my experience.
Just be sure to keep it on a trickle charger as much as possible and check the water level every spring.

I would check the water level every three months at least. Here in the Texas heat the level evaporates quickly. Might be better up north but at least every 6 months.
